The Role

We are seeking a Senior Systems Support Engineer to join a mission-critical government program focused on supporting legacy web and integration platforms. This on-site role is part of a dedicated support team responsible for ensuring the stability, security, and performance of IBM middleware systems and web hosting infrastructure.

The role is Sydney-based and will involve hands-on L2/L3 operations, incident resolution, and minor change execution within a high-availability enterprise environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide L2/L3 support for enterprise middleware including IBM WebSphere Application Server, IBM MQ, Apache Web Server, and e-NOS Perl-based platforms.
  • Perform system restarts, conduct log analysis, and resolve platform issues as part of incident and problem management workflows.
  • Execute routine operational tasks and scripts as per change and release plans.
  • Carry out system health checks, apply platform updates, and implement minor configuration changes.
  • Collaborate with delivery and infrastructure teams to maintain platform availability and performance.
  • Maintain and update operational documentation and support knowledge sharing across the team.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years' experience supporting IBM middleware technologies such as WebSphere Application Server and MQ.
  • Strong Linux administration and scripting skills, with hands-on experience in troubleshooting and automation.
  • Familiarity with Apache Web Server and Perl scripting (e.g., for e-NOS or similar platforms).
  • Proven experience in L2/L3 support roles across enterprise-scale environments.
  • Working knowledge of ITSM tools (e.g., ServiceNow, Remedy) and ITIL-aligned support processes.
  • Ability to diagnose complex technical issues and communicate clearly with stakeholders and team members.
