Pro Metal offers plasma, laser and waterjet cutting, CWB and AWS Welding, CNC machining and Powder Coating. Pro Metal Industries is seeking a Full Time CNC Machinist to join our Machine shop team that operates under a climate control environment, air conditioned during the hot summer months and well heated during the winter months. The CNC Machinist is part of interesting and exciting projects that include CNC coding, programming and prototyping. As we expand our CNC machining capabilities and technology, we are looking for a candidate that will be responsible for programming, setting up, operating, and inspecting CNC machines to produce high-quality components according to tight specifications.
If you have a Red Seal, College Diploma or equivalent experience in a manufacturing environment with at least 5-10 years hands-on milling and turning, then this job is for you!
The ideal candidate will bring leadership, technical expertise, and a commitment to continuous improvement in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, while also assisting in mentoring junior machining personnel under the direction of the Machine Shop Supervisor.
Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, or multi-axis machines to produce precision parts.
- Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T specifications.
- Program CNC machines using G-code, M-code, and/or CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Gibbscam or similar software) for optimal machining
- Calculate dimensions, tolerances, and material requirements for each project.
- Select appropriate electrodes, tools, and fixtures for each task.
- Adjust machining parameters to ensure precision and accuracy.
- Perform in-process inspections using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and CMMs to ensure accuracy and quality.
- Lead setup and troubleshooting of complex jobs and collaborate with engineers on process improvements.
- Mentor and train junior machinists and assist with workload prioritization.
- Maintain safe work practices and adhere to all safety and quality standards.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and troubleshoot equipment issues.
- Optimize machining parameters to increase productivity and tool life.
- Inspect finished parts for conformance to quality standards using precision measuring tools.
Qualifications:
- Red Seal Journeyman Machinist or equivalent with experience.
- A minimum of 5 years CNC experience on both live tooling lathe and 5 axis Milling machines.
- CAM experience in either Mastercam, Gibbscam or similar software is surely an asset
- Ability to troubleshoot and be creative on new product set-ups and prototypes.
- Ability to set up machines and record on set up sheets
- Work with tooling vendors to select tooling and inserts to produce the best quality and cost-effective machining
- Able to select and use the appropriate precision measuring tools to ensure components are machined to specified tolerances
- Ability to Assist the sale team in estimating jobs for customers
- Strong communication skills, with a positive attitude.
- Proven team player with the ability to lead for future development
- Ability to work alone or in a team
- Able to work with minimum supervision.
- Must be fluent in English, spoken and written
- Problem solving and trouble shooting skills is certainly an asset
- Perform work accurately, attention to detail and a high degree of quality
