SIEL Human Solutions on behalf of our client is looking to hire a Full Time Veterinary Assistant for a growing mixed animal rural practice in Saskatchewan. Our client has been in business for over 15 years and works with both small and large animals in every area of veterinarian medicine. In this role, the Veterinary Assistant is responsible for greeting clients, answering telephone inquiries, performing record keeping duties, clerical duties related to animal patient care/treatment, and provides support to both the DVM and RVT with various tasks to ensure their patients receive the care and attention they need while in the veterinary clinic.

WHAT YOULL BRING:

  • Minimum 1 years experience working in a vet clinic or hospital
  • Enrollment in post-secondary education in a RVT or Vet Assistance program with an accredited Canadian college.
  • Knowledge of standard veterinary procedures and terminology used in a vet clinic or hospital setting.
  • Knowledge of basic animal care and handling techniques
  • Ability to follow established policies and procedures when handling client concerns and complaints.
  • Maintain positive and cooperative relationships with other employees.

WHAT YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL BE:

  • Greet clients and pets by name immediately upon arrival in a friendly and sincere manner.
  • Provide compassionate care to patients and clients.
  • Assist the Receptionist by performing administrative duties by answering client inquiries, scheduling appointments, recording messages for DVM/Staff and taking care of routine calls.
  • Provide knowledgeable sub-professional advice concerning the care and treatment of animals, including questions regarding hospital services, fees, animal care and treatment.
  • Assist in handling emergency situations
  • Prepare and clean exams rooms before and after each visit.
  • Weigh animals, assist with examinations and the preparing of vaccines.
  • Perform nail trims and ear cleaning.
  • Assist Receptionist by notifying DVM and RVT of patients arrival, and relay all necessary information to the DVM and RVT (as applicable)
  • Assist DVM and RVT with restraining animals during examinations, vaccinations, and emergencies.
  • Sterilize equipment and clean examination tables and rooms.
  • Soothe upset or frightened animals.
  • Observe animal behavior, monitor health conditions and report to the DVM.
  • Restock treatment rooms, clinic supplies, and report items that are running low and need to be re-ordered.
  • Assist with surgical preparations and recovery.
  • Assist the RVT with dental cleanings, during anesthetic and induction when necessary.
  • Prepare lab samples and requisition forms.
  • Present clients with medications, instructions, new puppy/kitten kits and any other take home items
  • Assist with Euthanasia procedures, provide support to clients and process paperwork/consent forms.
  • Perform over the counter selling of pet foods and supplies. Exercise technical knowledge of products sold.
  • Assist with unpacking, labeling, and stocking of hospital supplies.
  • Ensure a smooth and timely flow of outpatient appointments from the check-in to the discharge.
  • Assist in the performance of the daily kennel and cattery routines, which includes daily sanitation of the areas.
  • Assure all animals are cared for regarding food, water, medication, daily exercise, and walks.
