Salary: ₦400,000 – ₦450,000 Gross Monthly

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our Client is seeking a highly competent, compassionate, and patient-focused Medical Officer to join its clinical team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering safe, evidence-based medical care through accurate diagnosis, effective treatment, and continuous patient management across outpatient, inpatient, and emergency services. The ideal candidate must possess strong clinical acumen, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work efficiently within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.

While prior oncology experience is advantageous, candidates with solid general clinical experience and a willingness to develop expertise in oncology practice are encouraged to apply.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Assessment & Patient Care

  • Conduct comprehensive patient consultations, including detailed medical history taking and physical examinations.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage a broad range of acute and chronic medical conditions.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on evidence-based clinical guidelines.
  • Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans where clinically appropriate.
  • Provide high-quality care for both outpatient and inpatient cases.
  • Recognize deteriorating patients and initiate timely clinical interventions.

Oncology Support & Specialized Clinical Care

  • Support the delivery of oncology services in collaboration with Consultants and Specialist Physicians.
  • Participate in the assessment, preparation, monitoring, and follow-up of patients receiving chemotherapy and other cancer treatments.
  • Assist in managing treatment-related complications and medical emergencies.
  • Ensure strict adherence to oncology protocols, patient safety standards, and quality care guidelines.

Diagnostic & Therapeutic Management

  • Request and appropriately interpret laboratory investigations, radiological imaging, and other diagnostic tests.
  • Prescribe medications safely and in accordance with current clinical guidelines.
  • Perform minor bedside procedures within approved scope of practice.
  • Provide emergency stabilization and initial management of critically ill patients before specialist referral where necessary.

Clinical Documentation & Governance

  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely electronic and manual medical records.
  • Document diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, progress notes, and discharge summaries in accordance with hospital standards.
  • Ensure compliance with MDCN regulations, hospital policies, ethical standards, and clinical governance requirements.
  • Participate in clinical audits, mortality reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration

  • Work closely with Consultants, Nurses, Pharmacists, Medical Laboratory Scientists, Radiographers, Physiotherapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
  • Participate actively in ward rounds, multidisciplinary team meetings, clinical case reviews, and continuous medical education activities.
  • Refer complex cases promptly to appropriate specialists.

Patient Safety & Health Education

  • Promote patient safety by adhering to infection prevention and control protocols.
  • Educate patients and their families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, medications, preventive healthcare, and follow-up care.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold the highest standards of medical ethics and professionalism.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS or MBChB).
  • Completion of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.
  • Current practicing licence issued by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
  • Minimum of 2–3 years post-NYSC clinical experience in a reputable hospital.
  • Demonstrated competence in patient assessment, diagnosis, and medical management.
  • Previous experience in oncology, internal medicine, emergency medicine, or related specialties is an added advantage.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is an added advantage.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Full-time, permanent employment.
  • Shift-based schedule, including weekends and public holidays where applicable.
  • 48-hour on-duty rotation followed by four (4) days off.
