Salary: ₦2,000,000 and above monthly (Negotiable based on experience and surgical portfolio)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon will provide advanced specialist care in the diagnosis, treatment, surgical management, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal disorders, trauma cases, and degenerative bone conditions. The role requires high-level surgical expertise, emergency trauma response capability, and leadership in orthopaedic service delivery within a multidisciplinary hospital environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Diagnose and manage musculoskeletal, orthopedic trauma, and degenerative conditions.

  • Perform complex orthopaedic surgeries including fracture fixation, joint reconstruction, and spinal procedures.

  • Manage emergency trauma cases including road traffic accidents, fractures, and polytrauma.

  • Conduct ward rounds and review post-operative patients.

  • Provide specialist outpatient consultations and surgical planning.

  • Oversee pre-operative and post-operative patient care pathways.

  • Collaborate with radiologists, physiotherapists, and anaesthetists for comprehensive care.

  • Perform joint replacement surgeries (hip, knee, shoulder where applicable).

  • Manage bone infections, deformity corrections, and reconstructive procedures.

  • Supervise junior doctors, residents, and surgical trainees.

  • Participate in trauma call rota and emergency surgical coverage.

  • Ensure proper documentation of surgical procedures and patient records.

  • Lead orthopaedic clinical audits and morbidity/mortality reviews.

  • Develop and implement orthopaedic care protocols and guidelines.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences and hospital governance meetings.

  • Provide rehabilitation guidance in collaboration with physiotherapy department.

  • Ensure adherence to infection control and surgical safety standards.

  • Engage in community outreach on trauma prevention and bone health awareness.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.

  • Fellowship of West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) or equivalent in Orthopaedics.

  • Valid practising licence with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).

  • Additional international fellowship or training is an advantage.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 5+ years post-fellowship experience in orthopaedic surgery.

  • Proven experience in trauma surgery and complex fracture management.

  • Experience in high-volume surgical or tertiary hospital environment preferred.
