Job Summary
The Pharmacy Technician will assist the Pharmacist in supporting daily pharmacy operations, ensuring accurate dispensing, excellent customer service, effective inventory management, and compliance with regulatory standards. This role requires attention to detail, accuracy, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced community pharmacy setting.
Key Responsibilities
1. Medication Dispensing & Preparation
Assist the Pharmacist in preparing and dispensing medications safely and accurately.
Count, measure, pour, package, and label medications as prescribed.
Support medication compounding under supervision.
Ensure all dispensing procedures comply with pharmacy regulations and safety standards.
2. Inventory & Stock Management
Monitor stock levels of medications and pharmacy supplies.
Identify and remove expired, short-dated, or damaged drugs.
Assist with procurement, ordering, and inventory restocking.
Ensure proper storage conditions for all pharmaceuticals (temperature, humidity, security).
3. Customer & Patient Support
Greet customers and attend to prescription needs promptly and professionally.
Collect and verify patient details and prescription information.
Provide excellent customer service while directing clinical queries to the Pharmacist.
Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and prescription data.
4. Administrative & Record Management
Enter prescription orders and patient information accurately into the pharmacy system.
Process payments, insurance claims, and billing transactions.
Maintain proper documentation and assist with daily pharmacy administrative tasks.
Support store operations to ensure smooth workflow throughout the day.
5. Compliance & Safety
Adhere to all pharmacy laws, ethical standards, and operational SOPs.
Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant working environment.
Follow health, safety, and infection control protocols.
Collaborate effectively with the Pharmacist and other staff to maintain high service standards.
Qualifications & Requirements
National Diploma (ND), Pharmacy Technician Certificate, or equivalent qualification.
2-4 years experience in a community or retail pharmacy.
PCN (Pharmacists Council of Nigeria) registration is a strong advantage.
Good knowledge of prescription drugs, OTC medications, and pharmacy processes.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a busy environment.
Strong computer literacy and experience with pharmacy management software.
