Position Overview: Senior Analytic Data Engineer (Python/Power BI)

Sigma Systems Inc. is currently recruiting for a Senior Analytic Data Engineer for one of our clients. This role is responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of enterprise data and programming infrastructure supporting HEDIS regulatory reporting and healthcare analytics initiatives.

The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in data architecture, ETL/ELT development, cloud-based data platforms, and advanced analytics solutions. This position requires hands-on experience with Python, PySpark, Apache Spark, Databricks, and GCP technologies, along with reporting expertise using Power BI and Tableau.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in establishing reliable and efficient data pipelines that support HEDIS engines and regulatory reporting processes while leveraging best practices across the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

Key Responsibilities

Data Engineering & ETL Development

Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines supporting HEDIS and healthcare reporting initiatives.

Build and optimize data ingestion, transformation, and integration processes using Python and PySpark.

Develop reliable and efficient data workflows to support enterprise reporting requirements.

Ensure data quality, integrity, validation, and governance across multiple data sources.

Create fault-tolerant, maintainable, and high-performing data solutions.

Cloud Data Platforms & Big Data Technologies

Develop and support cloud-based data solutions utilizing GCP, Databricks, Apache Spark, and related technologies.

Work with GCP data services and distributed processing frameworks to support large-scale analytics.

Support cloud modernization and enterprise data platform initiatives.

Optimize data processing performance, scalability, and reliability.

Reporting & Business Intelligence

Design and develop reports, dashboards, and visualizations using Power BI and Tableau.

Translate business reporting requirements into scalable analytical solutions.

Support stakeholders with actionable insights and performance reporting.

Ensure consistency, accuracy, and usability of reporting deliverables.

Database & Data Integration

Develop and maintain integrations with enterprise databases including Oracle, Teradata, and DB2.

Perform source-to-target mapping, data modeling, and integration analysis.

Write and optimize complex SQL queries for reporting and data transformation needs.

Support enterprise-wide data management and governance initiatives.

Solution Design & SDLC

Translate business requirements, user stories, prototypes, and design specifications into technical solutions.

Participate in architecture reviews, technical design discussions, and code reviews.

Follow SDLC best practices including development, testing, deployment, and documentation.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality data solutions.

Healthcare Analytics & Regulatory Reporting

Support healthcare data initiatives with a focus on HEDIS reporting and regulatory compliance.

Work with healthcare data models, quality measures, and reporting requirements.

Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to deliver compliant reporting solutions.

Contribute to enhancements and modernization efforts across healthcare data platforms.

Required Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.

Data Engineering & ETL

Minimum 3 years of experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools such as Apache Spark (Dataproc), GCP Tools, Databricks, and PySpark.

Minimum 3 years of experience building ETL and data integration pipelines using Python and PySpark.

Knowledge of Informatica is a plus.

Strong understanding of ETL architecture, data integration, and data engineering best practices.

Cloud & Big Data Technologies

Minimum 3 years of experience working with cloud platforms including GCP and Azure.

Experience leveraging cloud-native data services and distributed processing frameworks.

Hands-on experience with Databricks, Apache Spark, and related big data technologies.

Reporting & Analytics

Minimum 3 years of experience developing reports and dashboards using Power BI and Tableau.

Power BI experience preferred.

Strong understanding of data visualization and business intelligence methodologies.

Databases & SQL

Minimum 3 years of experience working with Oracle, Teradata, and DB2 databases.

Strong SQL development and query optimization expertise.

Experience working in Unix/Linux environments.

Healthcare Data Experience

Minimum 3 years of experience designing or developing data solutions within healthcare environments.

Experience working with diverse healthcare technology systems and data platforms.

HEDIS experience is highly preferred.

Technical Design & Development

Minimum 3 years of experience translating requirements, mockups, prototypes, and user stories into technical designs.

Experience developing data-related code that is fault-tolerant, efficient, scalable, and maintainable.

Strong understanding of SDLC processes and software engineering best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

HEDIS reporting and healthcare quality measures experience.

Experience with Informatica data integration tools.

Healthcare payer or provider industry experience.

Experience supporting regulatory reporting initiatives.

Strong knowledge of enterprise data architecture and analytics platforms.

Experience working in Agile development environments.
