Kia-Ora Piggery Pty Ltd is a progressive, family-owned pig production enterprise located at Yarrawalla VIC. We operate a modern, large-scale facility focused on high standards of animal welfare, biosecurity, and efficient production systems. We are currently seeking experienced and motivated individuals to fill the roles of Senior Piggery Stockpersons and Pig Farmers.

Position 1: Senior Piggery Stockperson

This position is responsible for supervising daily piggery operations and staff, ensuring optimal animal health, welfare, and production outcomes within a modern intensive farming environment.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily piggery activities across breeding, farrowing, and finishing units
  • Monitor pig health, behaviour, and welfare in accordance with Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Pigs
  • Administer medications, vaccinations, and treatments as directed
  • Implement and maintain strict biosecurity protocols
  • Oversee feeding systems and nutritional programs
  • Assist with breeding programs including artificial insemination and farrowing management
  • Train, supervise, and support farm staff
  • Maintain accurate production and compliance records
  • Ensure adherence to Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) requirements
  • Operate and maintain farm equipment and infrastructure
  • Report on operational performance and issues to management

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of pig husbandry and intensive production systems
  • Leadership and staff management capability
  • Excellent observational and problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of biosecurity and disease control
  • Record-keeping and basic computer skills

Qualifications & Experience

  • Certificate III or IV in Agriculture (or equivalent) preferred
  • Minimum 3–5 years' experience in piggery or livestock production
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of:
    • Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Pigs
    • Biosecurity Act 2015
    • Work Health and Safety legislation
  • Current driver's licence

Position 2: Pig Farmer

The Pig Farmer is responsible for the hands-on management of pig production, including breeding, raising, and maintaining livestock to meet productivity and welfare standards.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement pig breeding and production programs
  • Monitor livestock condition and ensure animal welfare compliance
  • Manage feeding and nutrition programs
  • Maintain housing, ventilation, and environmental controls
  • Identify and manage disease, including prevention and treatment
  • Maintain biosecurity standards across all operations
  • Manage waste disposal and environmental sustainability practices
  • Maintain and repair farm infrastructure and equipment
  • Record production data and report on outcomes
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant Australian regulations

Skills

  • Strong understanding of pig farming operations

  • Mechanical aptitude for equipment maintenance
  • Record-keeping and reporting ability

Qualifications & Experience

  • Relevant qualification in Agriculture, Animal Science, or related field (preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in pig farming or livestock production
  • Knowledge of:
    • Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Pigs
    • Biosecurity Act 2015
    • Work Health and Safety Act
  • Practical experience in intensive farming systems
