About the Role

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Metal Fabricator to join our Mackay team on a full‑time, permanent basis. The successful applicant will be responsible for fabricating, assembling, and repairing metal structures and industrial components in a busy workshop environment.

Employment Details

Responsibilities

  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Select, measure, cut, and prepare metal stock using hand tools and cutting machinery.
  • Fabricate and assemble metal components including chutes, conveyors, frames, reducers, elbows, and industrial equipment.
  • Shape and bend metal sections using rollers, presses, and other fabrication machinery.
  • Align, position, and secure parts using clamps, jigs, and measuring instruments.
  • Perform MIG, TIG, and stick welding on mild steel, stainless steel, and other metals.
  • Inspect welds for accuracy, penetration, and compliance with quality standards.
  • Conduct finishing tasks such as grinding, cleaning, and polishing.
  • Operate workshop machinery including press brakes, guillotines, rollers, and cutting machines.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment in accordance with WHS requirements.

Tasks

  • Cutting and shaping metal sections to required dimensions.
  • Joining metal components using welding, bolting, or riveting.
  • Repairing worn or damaged metal structures and equipment.
  • Measuring and marking out materials according to drawings.
  • Preparing surfaces for welding and fabrication.
  • Conducting quality checks on completed work.
  • Using hand and power tools to assemble fabricated components.
  • Cleaning and smoothing welds by grinding and filing.

Qualifications

  • AQF Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade or equivalen
  • Additional welding certifications (e.g., 3G, 6G, SMAW) highly regarded.
  • Safety training or high‑risk work licences desirable.

Skills

  • Proficiency in MIG, TIG, and stick welding.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
  • Skilled in operating fabrication machinery and workshop tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Good understanding of workplace health and safety practices.

Experience

  • Minimum three years of relevant experience in metal fabrication or industrial welding.
  • Experience fabricating industrial components such as chutes, conveyors, structural frames, reducers, elbows, and pressure‑related parts.
  • Experience in mining or heavy‑industry environments is advantageous.

Annual Salary: $76,515.00 to $85,000.00
