We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Dairy Cattle Farmer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management and care of dairy cattle, ensuring the health and productivity of the herd and the smooth running of the farms operations. This is a hands-on role suited to someone passionate about agriculture and animal husbandry, with a strong understanding of dairy farming practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the breeding, raising, and milking of dairy cattle.
- Monitor and maintain the health of livestock, identifying illnesses and administering treatment or liaising with veterinarians.
- Plan and implement feeding schedules and nutritional programs appropriate to herd size and seasonal requirements.
- Operate and maintain farm machinery, milking equipment, and water systems.
- Perform general farm maintenance, including maintaining fencing, paddocks, and livestock infrastructure.
- Supervise calving, assist with tagging, branding, vaccinations, and herd documentation.
- Manage pasture and fodder production, including fertilisation, weed and pest control, and irrigation.
- Maintain accurate records of production, breeding, health, and inventory.
- Comply with all biosecurity, animal welfare, and occupational health and safety regulations.
Key Selection Criteria:
- Proven experience in dairy farming or similar livestock operations.
- Solid knowledge of animal husbandry, cattle nutrition, and pasture management.
- Competency in operating farm machinery and tools.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a small team.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Physically fit and able to undertake outdoor manual work in all weather conditions.
- Availability to work flexible hours including early mornings, weekends, and public holidays when required.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Certificate III or higher in Agriculture, Animal Science or a related field (preferred but not essential).
- Minimum of 2 years relevant work experience in a commercial farming environment.
