Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pressure Welder & Mechanical Fitter to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing high-pressure welding on pipelines and structural components, and for the assembly, installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems and machinery.

This is a dual-role position that requires both welding and mechanical aptitude. You will work independently and collaboratively on a variety of projects to support equipment integrity and production operations across different work environments.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Welding Responsibilities (Pressure Welder 322312):

  • Perform manual and semi-automatic welding using TIG, MIG, flux-cored, and arc welding techniques.
  • Weld components to precise specifications for high-pressure applications such as boilers, pipelines, tanks, and structural steel.
  • Interpret and work from complex technical drawings, welding symbols, and schematics.
  • Conduct quality checks, visual inspections, and non-destructive testing (e.g., radiographic, ultrasonic) on completed welds.
  • Maintain and calibrate welding equipment, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with safety regulations.
  • Apply pre-heating and post-weld heat treatments where required.

Fitting Responsibilities (Fitter 73150):

  • Assemble, install, and align mechanical components, pumps, conveyors, and other industrial equipment.
  • Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on machines to minimize downtime and extend operational life.
  • Use diagnostic tools and techniques to identify faults and perform repairs or replacements efficiently.
  • Fabricate custom parts and systems as needed, ensuring compatibility and performance.
  • Read and interpret detailed mechanical blueprints and technical documentation.
  • Keep accurate records of repairs, parts used, and time taken.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Certificate III in Engineering Mechanical Trade or Fabrication Trade.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a pressure welder and/or mechanical fitter in industrial or manufacturing settings.
  • Sound knowledge of welding codes and standards (e.g., AS/NZS 3992, ASME, ISO).
  • Proficiency in using hand tools, diagnostic instruments, power tools, and welding/fitting equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex technical documentation, engineering drawings, and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail, work ethic, and commitment to workplace safety.
  • Physical capability to lift heavy items, work in confined spaces, and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to work autonomously and within a team environment under tight deadlines.

Desirable Attributes

  • Certification in High-Pressure Welding (desirable).
  • Additional qualifications in hydraulics, pneumatics, or fabrication.
  • Familiarity with CNC machinery or robotic welding systems.
  • Experience working with stainless steel and exotic metals.

Work Conditions

Work is carried out in diverse industrial environments including workshops, construction sites, and outdoor areas.

This role may involve exposure to noise, heat, and dust.

Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.

Occasional overtime or shift work may be required based on project timelines.

Remuneration and Benefits

Annual Salary: $73,150 - $80,000 AUD, depending on skills and experience.
