Position Summary
The Junior Accountant supports the accuracy and timeliness of financial records across Smart Suites and related entities. This role focuses on core accounting execution while actively contributing to automation, systemization, and AI-assisted process improvement.
You will work closely with senior accountants to ensure reliable financial data, efficient workflows, and continuous improvement within a fast-growing, technology-driven business.
Scope of Services
A. Core Accounting Support
- Accounts Receivable (Daily / Weekly) - Record and maintain AR transactions accurately in the accounting system. - Ensure income is complete, properly documented, and correctly classified. - Support monitoring of overdue balances.
- Accounts Payable (Daily / Weekly) - Process bills and expenses with correct coding and supporting documents. - Assist with vendor inquiries and AP reconciliations.
- Bank & Account Reconciliations - Perform bank and balance sheet reconciliations. - Investigate discrepancies and prepare adjustment entries for review.
B. Month-End Closing (MEC) Support
- Assist with month-end and year-end close activities.
- Prepare schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Ensure assigned close tasks are completed accurately and on time.
C. Reporting & Data Support
- Assist in preparing internal management reports and schedules.
- Maintain organized, audit-ready financial documentation.
- Support reporting by property, booking platform, and entity as required.
D. Automation, Excel & AI-Assisted Work
- Build and maintain Excel-based tools using Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP / INDEX-MATCH, and Power Query.
- Identify repetitive or manual tasks and suggest automation or efficiency improvements.
- Use AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) to support learning, validate logic, and improve accuracy.
- Support system testing, data validation, and workflow enhancements as processes evolve.
E. Collaboration & Learning
- Work closely with senior accountants and cross-functional teams.
- Respond promptly to internal finance-related queries.
- Accept feedback and actively develop skills in accounting systems, Excel automation, and AI-assisted workflows.
Key Performance Indicators
- Maintain accurate AP/AR postings and reconciliations with 2% error rate.
- Complete assigned month-end close tasks 100% on time.
- Demonstrate practical use of Excel automation tools in daily work.
- Contribute at least one automation or efficiency improvement within the first 90 days.
- Show consistent, responsible use of AI as a support tool for problem-solving and learning.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 2–3+ years of accounting experience
- Strong understanding of AP, AR, and bank reconciliations
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including:
- Pivot Tables
- XLOOKUP / INDEX-MATCH
- Power Query
- Familiarity with accounting systems (Zoho Books preferred)
- High attention to detail and ownership mindset
- Open-minded toward automation and AI-assisted accounting
- Strong communication skills and willingness to learn

Technical Live Assessment with an Accounting SME (60–90 minutes)
A practical, junior-friendly assessment focused on: - Core accounting scenarios - Hands-on Excel tasks - Observed use of AI as a support tool (no prompt engineering required)
Behavioral Interview with the Client (45–60 minutes)
Focuses on communication, cultural alignment, curiosity, and ability to work effectively in a remote, systems-driven environment.
Pre-Engagement Steps (10–15 minutes)

- Reference Check - Meet the Founder (30–60 minutes): An informal discussion to align on expectations, growth opportunities, and Smart Suites long-term vision.
