Position Summary
The Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of the companys financial records and reports. This role plays a key part in month-end closing, financial reporting, budgeting support, and performance analysis, providing reliable financial insights to support management decision-making, compliance, and profitability goals.
Scope of Services
A. Accounts Review & Oversight
Accounts Receivable (Weekly Review)
- Review Accounts Receivable transactions to ensure all income and receipts are completely and accurately recorded across Smart Suites and related subsidiaries.
- Oversee junior accountants AR work, providing guidance and corrections as needed.
- Ensure consistent revenue recognition practices across entities.
Accounts Payable (Weekly Review)
- Review Accounts Payable transactions to confirm all liabilities are properly captured and recorded in the correct period.
- Supervise junior team members handling AP processing and reconciliations.
- Ensure expenses are accurately allocated across Smart Suites and the owners other business entities.
B. Month-End Closing (MEC) & Multi-Entity Reporting
Profit & Loss per Reporting Tag (Monthly)
- Review COGS and Sales accounts to identify transactions without reporting tags across all assigned entities.
- Prepare and review journal entries to reclassify and allocate untagged transactions to the correct unit, building, or business entity.
- Update and maintain P&L reports by reporting tag and entity, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
Profitability Analysis
- Analyze profitability by location, length of stay, booking platform, number of bedrooms, and entity.
- Provide insights on performance differences across Smart Suites and other subsidiaries.
C. Financial Reporting & Analysis
Weekly Financial Reporting
- Review and consolidate weekly financial performance reports prepared by junior accountants.
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely submission of management reports.
Budget vs. Actual Analysis (Weekly)
- Oversee budget tracking across entities and review variance analyses prepared by the team.
- Identify key trends, risks, and opportunities and escalate significant findings to management.
Tax & Compliance Support (Yearly)
- Coordinate the preparation and validation of financial data for annual tax filing across multiple entities.
- Act as the primary finance point of contact for external accountants, supporting audits and statutory requirements.
D. Budgeting, Forecasting & Planning Support
Annual Budgeting & Forecast Support
- Support the Financial Controller in preparing annual budgets and forecasts for Smart Suites and affiliated entities.
- Review assumptions and inputs prepared by junior team members to ensure accuracy and consistency.
Rolling Forecast Updates (Weekly)
- Maintain and review rolling forecasts across entities, incorporating actual results and updated assumptions.
- Ensure forecasts reflect operational changes across different business units.
E. Team Leadership, Training & Process Improvement
Team Supervision & Development
- Lead, mentor, and manage junior accountants and finance staff.
- Assign tasks, review outputs, and provide ongoing feedback to ensure high-quality work.
- Identify skill gaps and conduct structured training on accounting processes, reporting standards, and internal controls.
Process & Controls Improvement
- Establish and document standard accounting procedures to ensure consistency across Smart Suites and other subsidiaries.
- Improve month-end close efficiency, reporting accuracy, and internal controls.
- Ensure accounting practices align with management expectations and external compliance requirements.
F. Cross-Entity Coordination & Stakeholder Support
Act as a key finance liaison between Smart Suites and the owners other business entities.
Ensure alignment in accounting policies, reporting formats, and timelines across subsidiaries.
Support management with ad hoc financial analysis and special projects across the group.
Key Performance Indicators
- Ensure all AR, AP, journal entries, and financial reports reviewed across Smart Suites and related subsidiaries maintain a post-review error rate of 1% or less.
- Lead and complete the month-end close on or before the agreed deadline, with minimal post-close adjustments.
- Ensure junior accountants meet at least 90% of their defined KPIs through effective review, coaching, and task management.
- Deliver accurate and complete multi-entity financial reports for Smart Suites and the owners subsidiaries with 100% on-time submission.
- Maintain weekly budget vs actual reporting and rolling forecasts, ensuring all updates are completed on time and reflect current data.
- Maintain audit-ready documentation and full compliance, with zero compliance issues or audit findings.
Skills and Qualifications
- CPA qualification (required, non-negotiable)
- Bachelors degree in Accounting
- 5+ years of accounting experience, including senior or supervisory exposure
- Advanced Excel / Google Sheets skills
- Experience using ERP/Accounting systems (Zoho books preferred)
- Strong experience in month-end close, journal entries, and AR/AP review
- Experience handling multi-entity accounting (Smart Suites and related subsidiaries)
- Proven ability to manage, review, and train junior accountants
- Strong analytical skills (P&L, budget vs actual, profitability)
- High attention to detail, ownership mindset, and deadline-driven

Technical Live Assessment with the SME (60 to 90 minutes)
This stage evaluates your practical capabilities in sales outreach, lead qualification, and virtual negotiations, using real-world scenarios relevant to the scope of services.
Behavioral Interview with the Client (60 minutes)
Focuses on your communication style, cultural alignment, and how you build trust and relationships in a remote business environment.
Pre-Engagement Steps (10 - 15 minutes)
- IT Audit: To ensure compliance with technology standards and security protocols.
- Reference Check: We will contact your provided professional references to verify your history and capabilities.
- Meet the Founder (30 to 60 minutes): A welcoming conversation where you'll connect directly with the company's founder. This is your chance to discuss engagement terms, share your own goals, and ask any final questions. This role requires a balance of hands-on accounting execution, analytical thinking, and people leadership, with exposure to multi-entity accounting and reporting within a growing business group.
