Senior Estimator Self-Perform Substation (Pearland)
Role Overview
The Senior Estimator will be responsible for preparing self-perform estimates for transmission and distribution projects, with a primary focus on substations. This role requires developing precise, bottom-up estimates in a professional manner while effectively managing risk to the company.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare detailed bottom-up estimates for transmission and distribution bids, primarily for substations.

Concentrate primarily on high-voltage scopes over civil or foundation work.

Create estimate schedules to balance workload and ensure deadlines are met.

Review RFPs, engineering drawings, and related documentation.

Document quantity take-offs and perform constructability analyses in detail.

Validate all estimate assumptions to ensure accuracy and reliability.

Build high-level project schedules (commonly in Excel).

Develop risk registers and support the risk review process.

Review commercial terms/conditions and address associated risks.

Ensure compliance with company estimating methodologies to maintain consistent quality.

Lead project team reviews for estimate quantities and overall scope.

Review, evaluate, and incorporate vendor, subcontractor, bonding, and insurance quotes.

Oversee subcontractor solicitation, bid evaluations, and package reviews before distribution.

Integrate pricing for both specialty and standard equipment/materials.

Estimate indirect costs and general conditions; review these with project management.

Present final estimates to leadership, including recommendations for contingency and escalation.

Provide estimates of hours required for each effort and review with Section Manager.

Evaluate and validate value engineering opportunities, alternatives, and options.

Lead estimating teams during pre-construction services.

Maintain and update cost history and estimating databases.

Mentor and train junior staff.

Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
-
Bachelors degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field plus 7+ years of direct estimating experience.

Equivalent professional experience may substitute for degree requirements.

Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively, with strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).

Proficient in Microsoft Office, ConEst, and K-Base.
-
OSHA 10-hour certification required.
Preferred Qualifications

Minimum 4 years of hands-on substation estimating experience.
-
At least 8 years in T&D EPC or construction contractor estimating roles.

Strong expertise in developing and bidding estimates for transmission and distribution construction projects.
