The Structural Engineer 2 position requires 5-7 years heavy industrial/power plant experience and an accredited bachelors degree in engineering. Job responsibilities include providing structural engineering services and field support, conducting preparation of designs and calculations, conducting site walk downs of construction sites, developing cost estimates and material takeoffs, providing schedule and staffing input for projects, and producing and checking structural steel design calculations and drawings. Skillsets and expertise required for this position include detailed knowledge of structural steel and concrete design principles and industry methodologies, significant structural steel connection design experience, proficiency with structural codes and standards, extensive knowledge of heavy industrial structures and components, strong computer skills - proficiency with structural computer programs such as STAAD PRO, proficiency with OSHA regulations, able to coordinate and manage multiple small to mid-sized, single or multi-discipline projects, able to perform structural inspections and provide written report, strong problem solving and decision making abilities, and the ability to build effective relationships with plant staff, design engineering staff and/or vendors.
Structural Engineer: JOB SUMMARY The position is responsible for structural design work to support Client Transmission and Distribution Substation Design Group as well as providing support to the Transmission Line Design Group. The Engineer will produce engineering drawings, specifications, and material requirements for structural steel and concrete foundations, etc. with an emphasis on safety, quality, scheduling, and costs. The position will require some travel (approximately 15%) and will require reporting to the Forest Park office a minimum of four days a week. MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: Make SAFETY our number one priority using a Safety First mentality and leading by example. Prepare high quality calculation and design packages needed to construct substation and transmission facilities using CAD-based tools, based on Client design standards. The Engineer in the Transmission Civil Design organization will be responsible for designing and analyzing new or modified existing substation structures. The Engineer will be expected to perform reinforced concrete foundation design and structural steel analysis/design on an as needed basis. The Engineer will work with other engineers to help in their development and knowledge transfer. Coordinate and communicate with other departments associated with Civil Design. Interact with manufacturers, vendors, and client committee members to resolve standards and material issues. Provide support to Constructions Services, Substation Construction, Transmission Line Construction, Field Services, Project Management and Substation Maintenance. Perform site visits for projects, including pre-construction meetings, during construction and post-construction. Some overnight travel may be required. Participate in design review meetings. Provide work direction and oversight for designers and drafters. Support client design criteria and standardization effort. Handling multiple tasks simultaneously, setting priorities, and using effective time management and organizational skills to achieve project team goals. JOB QUALIFICATIONS STRUCTURAL ENGINEER: Education: o Bachelors degree in engineering is required. BS in Civil Engineering strongly preferred. o Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certification required. Experience: o 3 plus years of experience in structural steel and concrete design. o Experience in industrial and/or commercial structural engineering. o Experience with seismic, wind and vibration analysis is a plus o Prior foundation design experience is a plus. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities o Working knowledge of AISC, ASCE, ACI codes o Working knowledge of AWS welding standards. o Working knowledge of OSHA codes as it relates to steel design. o Understanding of ANSYS, MathCAD and STAAD Pro o Understanding of deep foundation design utilizing AllPile, LPILE, FAD Tools o Experience with analyzing steel connections o Experience in reinforced concrete design o Design experience in transmission structures is a plus, but not required General: o Computer skills to be proficient with standard office software applications o Must be a self-starter and exhibit strong problem-solving skills. o Must demonstrate excellent communication skills (oral & written) and the ability to communicate technical issues simply. o Must work well in a team environment and have the ability to develop and build relationships at all levels.
