Environmental Air Specialist

This position involves managing air permitting and compliance projects while supporting a range of environmental initiatives for industrial and commercial clients. The role includes technical work, client coordination, and documentation related to air quality and broader multimedia environmental compliance efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and submit comprehensive air permit application packages, including all supporting documentation.

  • Perform environmental site assessments and inspections to verify compliance with federal, state, and local air quality standards.

  • Estimate and calculate emissions, including routine, greenhouse gas, maintenance, startup, and shutdown emissions.

  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to manage project scopes, budgets, and timelines effectively.

  • Support multimedia compliance efforts, including preparation of Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs), Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans, and Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) filings.

  • Ensure strict adherence to company and site-specific safety protocols.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related scientific discipline from an accredited institution, with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience (10 years preferred).

  • A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one year of required experience.

  • Prior experience in environmental consulting related to air permitting, compliance audits, environmental management systems, and technical reporting is preferred.

  • In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local air quality regulations, particularly those under the Clean Air Act, including:

    • New Source Review (NSR) / Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD)

    • National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP)

    • New Source Performance Standards (NSPS)

    • Title V and Title VI (Ozone-Depleting Substances)

  • Familiarity with air dispersion modeling software (e.g., AERMOD, AERSCREEN, CALPUFF, VISCREEN, PLUVUE, SLAB) is a plus.

  • Background or experience in sustainability initiatives is advantageous.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.

  • High attention to detail and the ability to manage complex regulatory requirements.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
