Senior Overhead Transmission Line Engineer

The Opportunity

This role functions as a technical specialist. Under general direction, you will develop and apply advanced engineering techniques, concepts, and approaches to complex problems. Responsibilities may include providing technical guidance to project teams, performing quality control support, and overseeing engineering deliverables for projects of low to medium complexity.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Standards

• Provide guidance on departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes, and company policies.

• Assist in developing, maintaining, and updating engineering standards.

• Offer technical guidance to project teams and peers.

Quality / Continuous Improvement

• Apply knowledge independently to ensure compliance with the quality program.

• Establish processes that promote a quality-focused culture.

• Support continuous improvement and change management initiatives.

Engineering Production

• Prepare complex engineering deliverables for multiple projects.

• Conduct research and make recommendations for equipment and material selection.

• Manage engineering data collection, analysis, and deliverables.

• Perform advanced engineering calculations and develop solutions to complex problems.

• Review lower-level engineering work and oversee assigned budgets, schedules, and quality requirements.

Project Coordination

• Coordinate internally and externally on complex projects.

• Define project schedules for single or multiple disciplines.

Client Focus

• Identify and communicate client interests and drivers.

• Develop approaches to meet client needs on moderately complex projects.

• Support business development or pursuit activities as needed.

Knowledge Sharing, Innovation, and Technology

• Serve as a technical specialist and provide consultation to project teams.

• Support multiple projects and complex technical challenges.

• Promote knowledge management and mentoring within the organization.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong experience in 69kV to 500kV overhead transmission line design.

• Working knowledge of power line system software (e.g., PLS, PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE).

• Advanced understanding of engineering design principles and standards.

• Previous experience interacting with clients and supporting business opportunities.

• Experience in utility-scale electrical transmission system design.

• Structural design of transmission steel structures and foundations.

• Basic structural steel and concrete experience using 3D analysis and design software.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in engineering from an accredited program.

• Minimum 11 years of relevant work experience.

• Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements, including background checks, drug screening, and other compliance checks.

Certifications

• Professional registration or licensure may be required depending on the role, or active pursuit of such registration is expected.

Work Environment / Physical Demands

• Flexible or hybrid work options may be available after the first 90 days, based on manager discretion and job performance.

• Positions may be located across multiple office locations in the U.S., with some eligible for relocation.
