RQ09857 - Sr. Database Administrator 

Toronto (Jarvis St) - Hybrid/on-site

- From October 20, 2025, the candidate is required to work onsite 4 days a week and 1 day from home

- From January 5, 2026, the candidate is required to work onsite 5 days a week fully

Security Level: CRJMC

Contract 5 months, possible extension

Responsibilities:

1. Perform day-to-day operations, maintenance, and support, including:

· Database error/alert monitoring & troubleshooting

· Database logs review and troubleshooting

· Database backup/recovery jobs/tasks review

· Performance monitoring and tuning

· Storage and capacity planning and management

· Database objects management

· Database change management

· Security/auditing

· Identify security gaps and vulnerabilities, identify and implement mitigations (e.g. patches)

· Installing, configuring, patching work related to projects

· User and profile management

2. Create a Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) document to assist operational staff (non-DBAs) in their duties regarding Oracle database environments.

3. Perform regular assessment of the existing Oracle databases/environments, and make recommendations regarding:

· Maintenance and leading practices.

· Changes required to address production issues (e.g. instability, poor performance) and risks.

· Improvements to operational procedures (e.g. backup/restore) to align to standard methodology and industry best practices, taking into account the amount and criticality of the systems.

· Recommendations for disaster recovery and non-production environments.

· Database upgrade options and approaches, informed by overall solution refresh plans and industry best practices.

4. Implement approved recommendations as described above.

5. Provide guidance and outline best practices for incorporating future database requirements into the environment.

6. Contribute to a team culture of collaboration, excellence and innovation.

7. Develop or inform the development of role descriptions for the development and sustainment of OPS/BPS Secure.

8. Develop plans for the knowledge and skills transfer to OPS employees, including activities or tests to demonstrate the successful transfer of knowledge and attainment of required skills.

Must-Have's:

  • 10+ years of experience in deploying and administering Oracle databases within an operations environment.
  • 5+ years of DBA experience supporting Oracle databases for large mission-critical enterprise solutions.
  • 10+ years of experience designing, making recommendations for, and implementing high availability database environments.
  • Working knowledge of migration strategies for Oracle databases versions 8, 9, 10g, 11g, and 12c.
  • Experience with OIAM and OEM.
