A destination marina in northwest Montana is seeking a Lead Marine Mechanic / Marina Service Manager to oversee and support its on-site marine service operation. This role combines hands-on marine diagnostics and repair with responsibility for daily shop operations, customer service coordination, and long-term service growth.

The position is ideal for an experienced marine technician who wants to lead a small operation, maintain high service standards, and help build a sustainable marina service business in a high-demand environment.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain inboard and outboard marine engines
  • Perform marine electrical diagnostics and troubleshooting
  • Complete routine service, maintenance, winterization, and summarization
  • Inspect vessels and identify repair or maintenance needs
  • Ensure repairs meet safety and quality standards

Service & Shop Management

  • Manage daily workflow and service scheduling
  • Communicate with customers regarding diagnostics, repairs, timelines, and expectations
  • Prepare repair estimates and review work orders
  • Coordinate parts ordering and inventory needs
  • Maintain accurate service documentation and records
  • Establish and uphold shop processes, standards, and cleanliness
  • Assist with hiring, training, and mentoring additional technicians or support staff as demand grows

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Marine Mechanic or Marine Technician
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair marine engines and electrical systems
  • Experience working in a marina, dealership, or independent marine repair shop
  • Prior leadership, lead technician, or service management experience preferred
  • Familiarity with manufacturers such as Mercury, MerCruiser, Yamaha, Suzuki, Volvo Penta, Evinrude, or Johnson
  • Ability to work independently and make sound technical and operational decisions
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Basic computer skills for service documentation, estimates, and parts lookup

Manufacturer certifications are preferred but not required. Practical experience and leadership capability are the primary qualifications.
