About the job Equipment Shop Manager
Our client is seeking an experienced Equipment Shop Manager to lead day-to-day shop operations supporting a fleet of forklifts, aerial lifts, and telehandlers. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can manage technicians, maintain workflow, and step in on repairs when needed.
This position is ideal for someone with a strong mechanical background who is ready to take ownership of shop performance, team development, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage shop technicians, ensuring productivity, quality, and safety
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
- Oversee preventative maintenance schedules and ensure timely completion
- Perform repairs and maintenance as needed alongside the team
- Maintain and enforce safety standards and company policies
- Manage shop workflow, organization, and cleanliness
- Identify parts needs and coordinate ordering to support repairs
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of tools and diagnostic equipment
- Support customer service efforts through quality and timely equipment readiness
- Communicate and collaborate with internal departments as needed

Requirements
- Minimum 7+ years of experience in equipment repair and maintenance
- Current or prior leadership or management experience within a shop environment
- Strong diagnostic skills across mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
- Ability to read and interpret schematics and technical documentation
- Comfortable using diagnostic software and computer-based systems
- Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to effectively support customers over the phone by diagnosing issues and guiding next steps

Advanced diagnostic ability across mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, including troubleshooting remotely when needed

Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities, service needs, and workflow efficiently
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and partners nationwide to support parts sourcing and service needs
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical job functions
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Ability to obtain equipment operation certifications if needed
- Must have personal tools required for the role
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
Work Environment & Schedule
- On-site shop environment
- Typical schedule is early morning start with mid-afternoon finish
- Occasional weekend work based on workload
- Limited after-hours support, primarily handled remotely or coordinated as needed
Leadership
- Lead, coach, and mentor the technician team to improve skill level, productivity, and overall performance
- Provide hands-on guidance, training, and support to develop technicians across mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
- Foster a positive, accountable team environment focused on safety, quality work, and continuous improvement
- Set clear expectations and hold team members accountable while supporting their growth and development
