Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Project Engineer with 12+ years of experience in facilities and infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will combine strong technical expertise with proven project management skills, ensuring high-quality mechanical and plumbing system designs are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with client expectations. This role involves overseeing engineering teams, coordinating across multiple disciplines, and serving as a trusted point of contact for clients and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, manage, and deliver mechanical engineering projects, including scope, schedule, budget, and reporting
  • Lead design and review of HVAC, plumbing, piping, and fire protection systems for facilities and infrastructure projects
  • Conduct field investigations, energy modeling, and code compliance reviews
  • Provide quality control for design documents, drawings, and specifications used for bidding and construction
  • Supervise and mentor junior engineers, assigning tasks and reviewing deliverables
  • Coordinate designs with client specifications and local, state, and federal code requirements
  • Support construction by troubleshooting field issues and collaborating with contractors, architects, and owners
  • Develop and maintain project management plans, budgets, schedules, and quality plans
  • Oversee proposals, pricing, and extra work order requests in support of business development efforts
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams, managing internal staff, subconsultants, and external partners
  • Participate in client meetings, presentations, and coordination efforts
  • Ensure proactive problem solving, ownership of results, and continuous performance improvement

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • 12+ years of professional mechanical engineering experience with demonstrated project leadership
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or EIT with ability to obtain PE within 612 months
  • Strong background in HVAC and plumbing system design and specifications
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with working knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, and load simulation programs (IESVE and Carrier HAP preferred)
  • Thorough understanding of building, energy, and mechanical/plumbing codes
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Commissioning certifications (CxA, BCxP)
  • PMP or CAPM certification
  • Experience with various project delivery methods (Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, P3)
  • Prior experience managing multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience working with local, state, or federal clients
  • Industrial systems or fire protection design experience

Work Environment

  • Primarily office-based with occasional fieldwork and site visits
  • May require work in varying outdoor conditions and occasional lifting up to 25 lbs
  • Travel may be required depending on project needs
