Shipyard Grinder Job Description

Job Title: Grinder (Shipyard)

The Grinder is responsible for grinding, cleaning, and preparing metal surfaces in a shipyard environment. The work includes finishing welded joints, removing rust and old coatings, and shaping metal parts using angle grinders and other tools.

Key Responsibilities

· Grind and smooth metal surfaces before welding and painting

· Clean and finish welded joints, remove spatter

· Remove rust, paint, and contaminants from surfaces

· Cut and shape metal plates and pipes

· Prepare surfaces for corrosion protection and coating

· Follow all safety guidelines (use of PPE, spark protection)

Required Certifications & Training

· Hot Work Safety Training (mandatory for shipyard work)

· Confined Space Safety Training (preferred)

· Occupational Safety Card (or equivalent)

· Basic Fire Safety Training

· Valid Work Safety Certificate according to local regulations

Education

· High school diploma or equivalent

· Vocational training in metalwork, mechanical engineering, or shipbuilding preferred

Suitable Work Experience

· Minimum 23 years of experience in metal grinding or surface preparation

· Experience in shipyard, heavy industry, or steel fabrication environments

· Familiarity with angle grinders, cutting tools, and surface finishing equipment

· Knowledge of corrosion protection and coating preparation

Skills & Competencies

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team

· Good physical condition and attention to detail

· Understanding of safety procedures and proper use of protective equipment


Shipyard Welder Job Description

Job Title: Shipyard Welder

We are seeking an experienced Shipyard Welder to join our team in building and repairing marine vessels. The role involves performing high-quality welding on structural components, hulls, and piping systems in compliance with marine safety and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

· Perform welding using advanced techniques: MIG, TIG, Stick, Flux-Cored, Submerged Arc.

· Work with marine-grade steel, aluminum, and specialized alloys.

· Interpret complex shipbuilding blueprints and schematics.

· Weld in various positions (1G6G) ensuring full penetration and structural integrity.

· Conduct inspections and maintain detailed documentation for compliance.

· Collaborate with engineers, naval architects, and large crews on shipbuilding projects.

· Follow strict safety protocols including confined space, fire safety, and marine safety training.

Qualifications & Certifications

· Minimum 5+ years welding experience, preferably in heavy industry or shipbuilding.

· Certifications such as ABS, DNV, or Lloyds Register highly preferred.

· Proficiency in welding techniques and familiarity with marine standards.

· Ability to work in outdoor environments, confined spaces, and at heights.

· Strong physical stamina for climbing, crouching, and lifting heavy materials.

· High school diploma or vocational training in welding.

· Advanced welding skills across multiple techniques.

· Knowledge of metallurgy and marine-grade materials.

· Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings.

Employment Terms

· Working hours: 40 hours/week, mainly daytime.

· Pay: 15€-17€/hour, approx. 2400€ - 2700€/month.
