Position: Hull Fitter

Company Overview:

NordStaff Solutions is a leading staffing and recruitment agency in the shipbuilding industry. Our client, a reputable shipyard, is seeking experienced Hull Fitters to join their team.

Job Summary:

As a Hull Fitter at our client's shipyard, you will be responsible for assembling, installing, and repairing the structural components of ships. This includes fitting and aligning steel plates, frames, and bulkheads according to blueprints and specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

A ship structure fitter is a lead fitter with more than 4 years of work
experience who also supervises and mentors an assistant/helper.

1. Professional Duties
- Assembly of complex sections and units of ship structures.
- Installation of parts and assemblies according to templates, markings,
and drawings.
- Alignment and fitting of parts and sections, elimination of gaps and
distortions.
- Securing assembled structures with tack welds, temporary fasteners,
and welding.
- Working with various materials (steel, aluminum alloys, composites).
- Fitting and joining structural elements before welding.
- Inspection of geometry and assembly quality (tolerances, gaps,
symmetry).

2. Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to read drawings and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of methods for assembling and joining structures (various
joining methods, fastening elements).
- Use of measuring and inspection tools (caliper, level, measuring tape,
etc.).
- Basic knowledge of metal welding and cutting technologies.
- Must be able to weld test samples to obtain a welding certificate –
fillet joint/vertical and overhead positions.
- Must be able to weld with ceramic backing, 100–200 mm.
- Knowledge of occupational safety requirements when working with ship
structures.
- Knowledge of and compliance with internal regulations, company
policies, and social norms.

3. Equipment and Tools
- Gas cutting equipment and welding equipment.
- Pneumatic and electric tools (drills, grinders, sledgehammers).
- Hoists, jacks, and clamps for fixing parts.

4. Qualification Requirements
- Work experience in shipbuilding or metal structures.
- Vocational secondary education or professional training courses.
- Teamwork skills, attention to detail, and responsibility.

This qualification level assumes significant work experience and the
ability to perform more complex and responsible ship structure assembly
operations.
