About the Role
We are seeking a Laser Operator Lead to take charge of our laser cutting operations in 1st Shift (6am to 2pm) . In this hands-on leadership role, you'll oversee a team of operators while running advanced CNC laser systems to produce high-precision parts for industries such as aerospace, infrastructure, and transportation. Key Responsibilities
· Lead Laser Operations Set up, program, and operate CNC laser cutting machines (Trumpf, Amada, Mazak, etc.) to meet detailed engineering and customer specifications.
· Team Leadership Supervise, train, and mentor a team of laser operators. Delegate tasks, ensure efficient workflows, and monitor team performance for quality and output.
· Quality Assurance Inspect parts using precision tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges) to verify dimensional accuracy and cut quality. Ensure every part meets internal and client standards.
· Process Optimization Adjust machine settings focus, speed, power, assist gasfor optimal cutting performance. Identify ways to improve cycle times, reduce waste, and increase efficiency.
· Troubleshooting Diagnose and resolve machine or programming issues quickly to minimize downtime and maintain production schedules.
· Collaboration Coordinate with engineering, programming, and production management to ensure smooth job transitions and clear communication throughout the process.
· Safety & Organization Enforce all safety protocols, ensure proper PPE usage, and maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work area.
Qualifications
· Education High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical training or certification in CNC laser cutting or metal fabrication is a plus.
· Experience
o 3+ years of CNC laser cutting experience (Trumpf, Amada, Mazak, or similar).
o At least 1 year of leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
· Skills
o Strong blueprint reading and interpretation skills.
o Familiarity with nesting software and CNC programming.
o Mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of laser maintenance and calibration.
o Effective communicator and team motivator.
o Able to lift and handle sheet metal in a fast-paced, standing environment.
