THE ROLE The Senior Accountant role involves the preparation of financial statements, processing of tax returns, preparing BAS statements, and other related services for a variety of business structures. The position will also include management of junior staff including reviewing work and training & development. You will work directly with the Partners and the role of Senior Accountant will contribute to the overall efficiency of the firm. We are looking for a candidate for the long term who is self motivated with ownership potential. THE RESPONSIBILITIES Your responsibilities will include: Preparation of tax returns for individuals, companies, trusts and partnerships Processing and administration of Self Managed Super Funds Preparing and completing small audits for not for profits and charities Preparation of related working papers and depreciation schedules Post and process journal entries to ensure all business transactions are recorded Assist in the processing of balance sheets, income statements and other financial statements according to legal and company accounting and financial guidelines Assist with reviewing of expenses, payroll records etc. as assigned Update financial data in databases to ensure that information will be accurate and immediately available when needed Prepare and submit weekly/monthly reports Management of Junior staff and reviewing work Assist Junior accountants and Business Partners in the preparation of monthly/yearly closings Assist with other accounting projects SKILLS REQUIRED We are after a self motivated and accountable employee Good understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles and practices Sound knowledge of tax laws and tax accounting Experience in preparing tax returns and BAS statements Experience working with timesheets Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team Experience managing Junior staff and reviewing work Strong attention to detail Excellent organisational skills with an ability to prioritise and multitask Strong communication skills and customer service A solution seeking / ‘can-do’ attitude Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Xero Keen to pursue and develop your professional accounting career WHAT WE OFFER Very little hierarchy: this is an ‘all hands-on deck’ client-focused firm Report directly to and communicate directly with the Partners Opportunity to develop management skills and confidence required to advance your career On the job training and mentoring provided Obtain a wide variety of experience and hone skills on diverse tax scenarios Centrally located with free on-site parking WHAT YOU OFFER Completion of a Commerce Degree or equivalent in accounting CA/CPA qualification or active pursuit thereof 4+ years of experience in business services within a chartered accounting context Strong written and verbal communication skills A positive and adaptable attitude Ability to work both independently and collaboratively If you believe you embody these qualities, we invite you to take the next step in your career with us.
