Job Description:
Position Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Finance & Payroll Officer to support the financial operations of our not-for-profit organisation. This part-time position plays a key role in ensuring accurate payroll processing, accounts management, and compliance with relevant financial and employment regulations. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in using Xero with a sound understanding of not-for-profit financial requirements. They will work closely with the leadership team to support financial integrity and employee satisfaction in a values-driven environment. Key Responsibilities: Process fortnightly payroll and employee entitlements using Xero in accordance with the applicable modern SCHADS Award Ensure compliance with Australian tax law, superannuation legislation, and NFP payroll obligations Maintain and update employee records, leave accruals, timesheets, and contract data Assist in preparing and reconciling accounts payable and receivable Working with the Board to manage budgets and provide monthly board reports Prepare and lodge BAS, PAYG, and superannuation contributions on time Provide finance support for grant acquittals, audits, and funding reports Work collaboratively with internal teams to support budget monitoring and reporting Uphold financial processes that align with the organisation’s mission and funding obligations Selection Critera: Proven experience in a similar finance/payroll role, preferably in a not-for-profit setting Proficiency in Xero accounting software Solid understanding of Australian payroll and accounting standards, especially for the NFP sector Strong attention to detail and data accuracy Ability to manage confidential information with discretion Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse team Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines Desirable: Familiarity with the SCHADS Award or other relevant awards Experience preparing financial information for grants or funding bodies Qualifications in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Finance, or a related discipline Experience working in or with community organisations or charitable entities Work Environment: Part-time flexible hours (e.g., 2 days per week) Supportive and mission-aligned team culture Opportunity to contribute to the impact and growth of a community-focused organisation
