Position Overview The Healthy Rivers to Reef Partnership is looking for a dynamic Project Officer to help deliver monitoring projects and produce data to drive positive change across the Mackay-Whitsunday-Isaac region. In this diverse role, you’ll coordinate field monitoring programs (including marine), manage impactful projects, and help produce the Partnership’s trusted Report Card assessing waterway health and environmental condition. You’ll also contribute technical expertise, support data management and visualisation, and engage with community, scientific, and Traditional Owner partners. Position relationships – Who you will be working with You’ll be a member of the Mackay-Whitsunday-Isaac Healthy Rivers to Reef Partnership (HR2RP) team, hosted by Reef Catchments. Reporting to the HR2RP Executive Officer, you’ll also work closely with the Partnership’s Lead Technical Officer and Communications and Engagement Officer, as well as taking direct ownership for proactive management of key relationships with a wide range of diverse program stakeholders and Partners – everyone from students and researchers to CEOs! About You You’re an enthusiastic environmental professional with a degree in a related field, and 2–5 years’ experience. You thrive on coordinating programs and projects, analysing data, and enjoy collaborating with scientists, stakeholders, and community groups. Your strengths include outstanding organisation, clear communication, and the ability to understand, manage and translate data / science to the wider community. You’re comfortable working independently or in a tight-knit team and take pride in meeting deadlines and delivering high-quality outcomes. Experience with data management systems, spatial mapping (ArcGIS Pro), and data visualisation tools like Tableau will set you apart. Most importantly, you’re passionate about protecting waterways and the Reef—and ready to use your skills to help drive positive change. Selection Criteria Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (Marine / Aquatic Science, Science, Environmental Management, Data Science or similar). 2-5 years professional experience, in a related field. Strong and demonstrated project management skills, with the ability to coordinate a range of programs involving multiple stakeholders (including marine and waterway field work, scheduling, and project administration and reporting). Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Strong data / science communication skills and a familiarity and interest in data visualisation tools e.g. Tableau. Experience in data management and Data Management Systems. Experience in spatial mapping and associated programs (e.g. ArcGIS Pro) is highly regarded. Strong ability to work both independently and as part of a motivated team; demonstrated experience collaborating with a range of diverse stakeholders. Ability to proactively facilitate science / community engagement and to work collaboratively with a range of Partners including schools, students, and our region’s Traditional Owners.
