Overview: The Medical Biller is a crucial role responsible for ensuring accurate charge capture and coding for our dermatology practice. This position focuses primarily on reviewing clinical notes for accuracy, posting charges, and applying appropriate modifiers to support the financial operations of the practice.

Responsibilities:

  • Review clinical documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness of information necessary for proper coding and billing

  • Post charges for services rendered by the dermatology practice, ensuring all billable items are captured

  • Apply appropriate modifiers to claims to ensure accurate representation of services provided

  • Verify that all charges align with the documented services in the patient's medical record

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of dermatology-specific procedures, treatments, and corresponding CPT codes

  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation when necessary

  • Identify and resolve discrepancies between clinical notes and charges

  • Stay up-to-date with changes in medical coding regulations and requirements, particularly those relevant to dermatology

  • Provide regular reporting on charge capture performance and identify areas for improvement

  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient and practice financial information

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with a preference for a degree or certification in medical billing or coding

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in medical billing and coding, preferably in a dermatology or similar specialty practice

  • Thorough knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and dermatology-specific procedures

  • Proficient in using medical billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems

  • Strong understanding of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding systems, with emphasis on dermatology-related codes

  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills

  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively

  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with healthcare providers and other staff members

  • Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient confidentiality and data security
