Shift Operator – RO Plant / Fire Water / NG (Utilities)

Role Summary
Responsible for operating and monitoring RO plants, fire water systems, natural gas (NG) stations, and related utility equipment to ensure uninterrupted and quality supply of utilities to production units. The role includes troubleshooting, shift-level coordination, and ensuring safe and smooth plant operations in line with approved operating standards.

Key Responsibilities

Plant Operations

  • Operate and monitor RO plants, fire water systems, NG stations, and utility equipment within approved parameters.
  • Record equipment readings and operating data; maintain accurate log sheets and reports.
  • Perform routine inspections, cleaning, adjustments, and checks to minimize unplanned shutdowns.
  • Monitor and control chemical dosing systems, water quality, and treatment processes.
  • Ensure emergency and standby equipment are regularly tested and maintained.
  • Follow work permit procedures and ensure safety measures before equipment handover for maintenance.
  • Maintain clean and safe plant areas in compliance with HSE and quality standards.
  • Coordinate shift handover with clear and complete operational updates.
  • Manage shift operations in the absence of other operators when required.
  • Provide support across different RO plant phases as needed.

Troubleshooting & Support

  • Identify deviations in operating parameters and take corrective actions as per SOPs.
  • Report production-impacting issues promptly to supervisors.
  • Support main plants during non-routine operational problems and emergencies.
  • Execute emergency response procedures to minimize risk to personnel and equipment.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Adhere to all safety, environmental, and quality policies and procedures.
  • Participate in safety audits, training programs, and improvement initiatives.
  • Propose improvements to operating procedures and standards for continuous improvement.

Coordination & Communication

  • Coordinate with maintenance teams for repair and servicing activities.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and cross-functional teams for inter-plant activities.
  • Support supervisors in developing and updating operating standards.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Diploma in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
    OR
  • Bachelors degree in Chemistry (BSc)

Preferred Training

  • Water treatment technologies
  • Chemical handling
  • Gas testing

Experience

  • 6+ years in utility plant operations (RO, DR, EAF-CC, compressed air, NG station, fire water systems) within steel, fertilizer, or petrochemical plants.
  • Minimum 3+ years hands-on experience in RO and utility plant operations.
  • 2+ years in troubleshooting, emergency handling, and water analysis.
  • 2+ years experience as Team Leader/Supervisor in utility operations (preferred).
  • 2+ years working with PLC and DCS control systems.
