Position Overview: The Senior Grower Accountant will be responsible for overseeing financial activities related to crop production and growing operations. This role requires a strong understanding of agricultural accounting principles, crop costing, and operational finance. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in agricultural accounting or related roles and a passion for driving efficiency and profitability in farming operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage all aspects of financial accounting and reporting for crop production and growing activities, including budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Develop and maintain cost accounting methodologies to track and analyze production costs, crop yields, and operational expenses.
- Collaborate with farm managers, agronomists, and other stakeholders to develop annual operating budgets and crop plans.
- Analyze and interpret financial data to identify trends, opportunities for cost savings, and areas for operational improvement.
- Prepare and present financial reports and analysis to senior management and stakeholders to support decision-making and strategic planning.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, tax laws, and internal controls related to crop production and agricultural operations.
- Conduct internal audits and reviews of growing processes and controls to identify risks and implement best practices.
- Provide financial guidance and support to farm management teams on budgeting, forecasting, and cost management.
- Assist in the implementation of accounting systems, tools, and processes to streamline operations and enhance efficiency.
- Stay informed about industry trends, market dynamics, and emerging technologies in agriculture and crop production.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Agriculture, or related field required; CPA or CMA designation preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a focus on agricultural or farming operations.
- Strong understanding of agricultural accounting principles, financial reporting standards (GAAP), and cost accounting methodologies.
- Experience working with farming software and ERP systems (e.g., AgriSight, Granular, FarmLogs) preferred.
- Knowledge of crop production processes, agronomy, and agricultural regulations.
- Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable insights.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Detail-oriented and highly organized, with a focus on accuracy and quality.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
