Role Purpose

The Receiving Clerk Assistant supports the Receiving Clerk by assisting with the receipt, inspection, handling, and recording of incoming materials and supplies. The role helps maintain accurate inventory records, safe materials handling, and efficient receiving operations to support uninterrupted mining and processing activities.

Key Responsibilities

Receiving & Inspection Support

  • Assist with receiving deliveries of engineering spares, consumables, reagents, PPE, and general supplies
  • Help check deliveries against purchase orders, delivery notes, and packing lists
  • Support inspection for quantity, damage, and visible quality issues
  • Report shortages, damages, or discrepancies to the Receiving Clerk or Supervisor

Documentation & System Support

  • Assist with preparing and filing Goods Received Notes (GRNs) and delivery documentation
  • Support accurate capturing of receipts into the ERP / inventory system under supervision
  • Ensure delivery documents are properly signed and filed
  • Maintain orderly receiving records and logs

Materials Handling & Storage

  • Assist with off‑loading of materials using approved equipment and safe lifting practices
  • Help label, tag, and move received stock to correct storage or staging locations
  • Support correct segregation of hazardous, bulky, or sensitive materials
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the receiving and laydown areas

Safety, Health & Compliance

  • Comply with the Mine Health & Safety Act (MHSA) and site SHE procedures
  • Follow safe manual‑handling, lifting, and traffic‑management rules
  • Use prescribed PPE at all times
  • Report unsafe conditions, near misses, or incidents immediately

Inventory Support & Stock Control

  • Assist with stock counts, cycle counts, and physical inventory checks
  • Help identify incorrectly stored or labeled items
  • Support investigation of stock discrepancies when required
  • Ensure materials are not released or used before proper receipting

Coordination & Communication

  • Communicate delivery status and issues to Receiving Clerk and Stores team
  • Assist with prioritisation of urgent or critical deliveries
  • Support coordination with transporters and suppliers during off‑loading

General Support Duties

  • Perform ad‑hoc stores and warehouse duties as directed
  • Support continuous improvement of receiving and stores processes
  • Assist during shutdowns or peak delivery periods

Qualifications & Experience

  • Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent
  • 1–2 years' experience in stores, receiving, or warehouse environments
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Willingness to work in an industrial or mining environment

Desirable

  • Experience in mining, zinc, or heavy industrial operations
  • Knowledge of basic inventory or stores procedures
  • Forklift or material‑handling equipment licence
