Job Purpose
The Data Capturer is responsible for accurate, timely, and complete capturing of operational, maintenance, production, and safety data into company systems to support reporting, planning, compliance, and decision‑making within the zinc mining operation.
Key Responsibilities
Data Capturing & Processing
Capture data accurately from:
- Job cards and work orders
- Production and shift reports
- Maintenance logs and inspection records
- Safety, SHE, and incident reports
- Enter data into systems such as:
- CMMS (e.g. SAP, Pragma, AMT)
- Production or metallurgical databases
- Safety and compliance systems
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and correct coding of captured information.
Reporting Support
- Compile daily, weekly, and monthly reports as required.
- Assist supervisors and planners with:
- Maintenance backlog reports
- Production and downtime summaries
- Safety statistics and trend data
- Extract data for audits, meetings, and management reviews.
Document Control & Record Keeping
- Maintain organised filing systems for:
- Job cards and maintenance records
- Shift and production reports
- Safety and inspection documentation
- Ensure records are stored in accordance with company and statutory requirements.
- Track missing or incomplete documentation and follow up with responsible departments.
Data Quality & Compliance
- Verify data accuracy against source documents.
- Identify anomalies, missing information, or inconsistencies and escalate where necessary.
- Support internal and external audits by providing accurate records.
- Maintain confidentiality of operational and personnel information.
Communication & Coordination
Liaise with:
- Supervisors and foremen
- Engineering planners
- Operations and SHE teams
- Follow up on outstanding job cards, reports, or missing data.
- Provide feedback to departments on data capture issues or improvements.
Administration & Support Duties
- Assist with general administration tasks related to reporting and data handling.
- Maintain spreadsheets, registers, and basic dashboards where required.
- Support department clerical needs during shutdowns, audits, and peak periods.
Minimum Qualifications
- Grade 12 / NQF Level 4
- Computer literacy (MS Excel, Word, email)
- Basic numeracy and data‑handling skills
- Medically fit for mine work (if site‑based)
Advantageous
- Certificate or Diploma in Administration, Information Management, or Data Processing
- Experience using CMMS or ERP systems (SAP / Pragma / equivalent)
- Mining or industrial environment exposure
Experience Requirements
- 1–3 years experience in a data capture, clerical, or administrative role
Experience in:
- Mining, engineering, or industrial environments advantageous
- Handling technical or operational documentation preferred
Technical Competencies
- Accurate data capturing and verification
- Spreadsheet and database usage
- Understanding of job cards, work orders, and shift reports
- Basic reporting and data extraction
- Filing and document management
