Job Description: Boilermaker

Location: Yekepa, Liberia / Site-based and rotation
Job Type: Full-time / Fixed-term

1. Role Purpose

The Boilermaker is responsible for fabricating, repairing, and maintaining metal structures, chutes, tanks, and fixed plant components across the iron ore concentrator. This role ensures structural integrity, reliability, and safe operation of equipment through high-quality welding, cutting, and fabrication work.

2. Key Responsibilities

Fabrication & Welding

• Perform welding (SMAW, MIG, TIG as applicable) on plant structures, chutes, pipes, brackets, and supports.

• Fabricate components from drawings, sketches, and measurements.

• Repair worn or damaged structural parts, liners, and metalwork.

• Use cutting torches, grinders, guillotines, rollers, plasma cutters, and related tools.

Maintenance & Repairs

• Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on structural components of:

  • Conveyors and transfer chutes

  • Crushers and screens

  • Tanks, hoppers, thickeners, platforms

  • Piping systems and steel structures

• Install and replace liners, wear plates, and guards.

• Support mechanical teams during shutdowns, change-outs, and rebuilds.

Inspection & Fault-Finding

• Inspect plant structures for cracks, corrosion, misalignment, and wear.

• Identify risks and recommend corrective or preventive actions.

• Ensure fabricated and repaired components meet quality and safety standards.

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all safety procedures, including working at heights, hot-work permits, and confined space entry.

• Ensure proper use of PPE, welding screens, and fire prevention methods.

• Maintain a clean, safe work area and adhere to all site regulations.

Documentation & Communication

• Complete job cards, defect reports, and maintenance records.

• Communicate clearly with supervisors and maintenance teams about job progress.

• Assist in planning materials, consumables, and tools for upcoming jobs.

3. Qualifications & Experience

Essential

• Trade Certificate in Boilermaking, Metal Fabrication, or similar.

• 5-10 years experience as a Boilermaker in mining, heavy industry, or fabrication workshops.

• Strong welding skills and ability to pass welding competency tests.

• Ability to read fabrication drawings and understand tolerances.

• Experience with steelwork repairs on chutes, conveyors, tanks, and structural components.

Desirable

• Experience working in iron ore or mineral processing plants.

• Ability to fabricate independently with minimal supervision.

• Certification in working at heights or confined spaces.

• Experience with shutdown work and heavy-plate fabrication.
