Automation/Scada Engineer
Location: Yekepa, Liberia / Site-based and rotational
Job Type: Full-time / Fixed-term
1. Role Purpose
The Automation/SCADA Engineer is responsible for the configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimisation of the plants Siemens PCS7 Distributed Control System (DCS) and all associated automation and instrumentation systems. The role ensures safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the iron ore concentrator by supporting process control, production, and maintenance teams.
2. Key Responsibilities
Control System Maintenance & Development
Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimise the Siemens PCS7 DCS, including OS, AS, WinCC, and network components.
Diagnose and resolve control system issues, alarms, communication failures, and logic problems.
Develop and modify control logic, SFCs, faceplates, graphics, and PLC blocks as required.
Implement system backups, version control, and cybersecurity practices.
SCADA & Industrial Network Support
Maintain and optimise plant SCADA systems, historian interfaces, and industrial networks (Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet).
Monitor system health, redundancy servers, field I/O, and fibre-optic communication infrastructure.
Support integration with third-party systems (weighing systems, analyzers, MCCs, VSDs, protection relays, etc.).
Instrumentation & Field Support
Support instrumentation (flow, level, pressure, temperature, density, etc.) and troubleshoot signal issues.
Assist with calibration, installation, loop checks, and commissioning of field devices.
Work alongside electrical and mechanical teams to ensure accurate and reliable instrumentation data.
Project, Optimization & Commissioning
Participate in control system upgrades, expansions, and process optimisation initiatives.
Lead or support commissioning of new equipment, control loops, and system modifications.
Prepare and update control philosophy documentation, loop descriptions, and functional specs.
Maintenance Planning & Reporting
Review and improve alarm management and control loop stability.
Complete accurate job cards, logs, and technical reports.
Provide technical support to planners for preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure all automation work complies with safety standards, LOTO, and site rules.
Implement cybersecurity best practices aligned with corporate guidelines.
Participate in HAZOPs, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
3. Qualifications & Experience
Essential
Degree or Diploma in Automation, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, or similar.
Minimum 35 years experience in an industrial process plant (mining, minerals processing, chemical, oil & gas, or manufacturing).
Strong hands-on experience with Siemens PCS7 (required).
Proficiency in WinCC, Step7, TIA Portal, and Siemens PLC family (S7-300/400/1500).
Good understanding of Profibus/Profinet networks, diagnostics, and industrial Ethernet.
Strong instrumentation troubleshooting background.
Desirable
Experience with large-scale concentrators, beneficiation plants, or continuous process industries.
Knowledge of motor control centres (MCC), VSD integration, and protection relays.
Knowledge of historian systems (OSIsoft PI, WinCC OA, etc.).
Commissioning experience for greenfield or brownfield expansions.
