Job Description: Process Section Supervisor

Location: Yekepa, Liberia / Site-based (Shift or Daywork depending on structure)

1. Role Purpose

The Process Section Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating daily operations within an assigned section of the processing plant (e.g., Crushing, Milling, Classification, Flotation/Magnetic Separation, Thickening, or Dewatering). The role ensures safe, efficient, and continuous operation of the process, providing leadership to field operators and control room operators while supporting production and quality targets.

2. Key Responsibilities

Operational Supervision

  • Supervise and direct operators within the assigned plant section.

  • Ensure stable operation of equipment and processes according to SOPs.

  • Monitor process parameters and make adjustments to optimize throughput, recovery, and product quality.

  • Conduct start-ups, shutdowns, and changeovers safely and efficiently.

  • Respond promptly to process deviations, equipment issues, and alarms.

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce site safety rules, PPE requirements, and safe operating procedures.

  • Ensure LOTO, permit-to-work, confined space, and hot-work procedures are strictly followed.

  • Perform regular field inspections to identify hazards and unsafe conditions.

  • Lead by example in maintaining a zero-harm safety culture.

Operator Leadership & Development

  • Provide daily guidance, coaching, and on-the-job training to operators.

  • Conduct toolbox talks, shift briefings, and handover meetings.

  • Assess operator competencies and recommend training needs.

  • Help build a strong, competent, and motivated operational team.

Coordination & Communication

  • Communicate plant issues clearly to maintenance, metallurgy, and supervision teams.

  • Report equipment defects and follow up on outstanding work orders.

  • Coordinate maintenance interventions in the section and support safe execution.

  • Work closely with the control room to ensure alignment between field and panel operations.

Production Monitoring & Reporting

  • Monitor section KPIs such as throughput, recovery, product quality, and availability.

  • Record downtime events, delays, and process deviations accurately.

  • Prepare shift or daily reports as required.

  • Ensure high-quality handover documentation and communication between shifts.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify operational bottlenecks and recommend improvements.

  • Participate in root-cause analysis of equipment or process failures.

  • Support metallurgists and engineers with trials, data collection, and process optimization initiatives.

3. Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Certificate, Diploma, or relevant technical qualification in Mineral Processing, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or related field.

  • 7+ years experience in processing plant operations.

  • Strong understanding of plant sections such as crushing, milling, classification, magnetic separation/flotation, thickening, or filtration.

  • Experience supervising or leading operators in a continuous process environment.

  • Familiarity with control room operations (DCS/SCADA).

Desirable

  • Experience in iron ore or similar beneficiation plants.

  • Knowledge of Siemens PCS7 or similar DCS systems.

  • Previous experience in commissioning or plant expansion projects.

  • Good understanding of process KPIs and operational reporting.
