Job Purpose

The Senior Mechanical Artisan is responsible for the maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of primary gyratory crushers to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operation. This role supports crushing uptime, minimizes unplanned downtime, and ensures compliance with OEM standards and site safety practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
  • Perform routine inspections including daily checks of oil temperature, pressure, lubrication system performance, and vibration indicators.
  • Conduct weekly inspections of the mantle, concaves, spider bushing clearance, and wear components.
  • Monitor and maintain critical tolerances (e.g., eccentric bushing clearances) to prevent dimensional failures.
  • Use diagnostic tools (laser alignment, lubrication monitoring systems, condition monitoring sensors).

Breakdown Repairs & Fault Finding

  • Troubleshoot mechanical faults including lubrication breakdowns, shaft misalignments, eccentric assembly wear, and overheating events.
  • Repair or replace components such as:
  • main shaft, eccentric assembly, spider bearing, concaves, mantles, hydraulic systems.
  • Assist with safe top‑service maintenance procedures for bushings, hydraulic pistons, and eccentric assemblies.

Installation, Commissioning & Overhauls

  • Participate in installation or rebuild projects ensuring:
  • Foundation integrity and correct alignment
  • Proper lubrication system commissioning
  • Verification of oil purity, line integrity, and cooler performance
  • Oversee change-outs of mantles and concaves following OEM safety protocols.

Safety, Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure all work adheres to site safety standards, lockout/tagout, and OEM guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, failure reports, and service logs.
  • Participate in continuous improvement for uptime optimization and cost reduction

Skills & Competencies

Technical Skills

Strong mechanical proficiency in:

  • Hydraulics
  • Lubrication systems and oil analysis
  • Crusher wear parts and metallurgy
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, tolerances, and engineering specifications.
  • Operational Competencies
  • Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) skills.
  • Ability to diagnose crusher performance deviations and chamber wear issues.
  • Familiarity with digital monitoring systems (e.g., Metso, TIMS, smart controls).

Qualifications & Experience

  • Trade Test qualification: Mechanical Fitter / Millwright (or equivalent).
  • 5–10 years experience in crushing plant maintenance, with at least 3 years on primary gyratory crushers.
  • Experience with OEM equipment such as Metso series, TS/TSUV, or equivalent.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights.
  • Willingness to work shifts, standby, and overtime.
  • Fit for duty in heavy industrial mining conditions.
