About the job Heavy Equipment Maintenance Trainer
STELO is looking for an experienced and motivated Heavy Equipment Maintenance Trainer to coordinate the training activities of one of the most ambitious programmes in Africa's mining industry today.
This training programme will be in Madagascar.
Job Purpose:
To deliver practical and theoretical training in the maintenance and repair of heavy mobile equipment, ensuring trainees gain the skills and competencies to work safely and effectively in operational environments such as mines, construction sites, or logistics yards.
Key Responsibilities:
Training Delivery:
- Provide hands-on and classroom instruction in the maintenance of:
- Earthmoving and mining equipment (e.g., excavators, dump trucks, dozers, graders, loaders).
- Diesel engines, hydraulic systems, drivetrains, brakes, cooling systems, and electrical systems.
- Train on the use of diagnostic tools, maintenance procedures, and manufacturer guidelines (e.g., CAT, Komatsu, Volvo, Hitachi).
- Deliver competency-based training aligned with recognized standards.
Assessment & Evaluation:
- Conduct theory tests, practical evaluations, and on-the-job assessments.
- Evaluate skills in troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance.
- Maintain detailed records of assessments, attendance, and progression.
Curriculum Development:
- Develop, review, and update training materials, SOPs, and visual aids.
- Customize content to specific site equipment and operational needs.
Safety & Compliance:
- Reinforce safety protocols including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), permit-to-work systems, and proper use of PPE.
- Ensure training reflects current industry safety regulations and environmental standards.
Mentorship & Support:
- Coach apprentices and upskill existing maintenance technicians.
- Identify trainees needing additional support and provide tailored coaching.
Qualifications:
- Trade-qualified Heavy Equipment Mechanic or Diesel Fitter.
- 5+ years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance, preferably in mining or construction.
- Hold a Recognized Trainer & Assessor certification
- Familiarity with OEM diagnostic software and service systems.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong mechanical and diagnostic skills.
- Effective communication and teaching ability.
- High safety awareness and ability to instill safe working practices.
- Proficiency in reading schematics and service manuals.
- Ability to use digital learning tools and maintenance tracking systems (CMMS).
Reporting and Coordination:
- Collaborate with maintenance supervisors and planners to schedule relevant training.
- Report trainee progress and training gaps to the Technical Training Coordinator
Languages : Professional English and French, Malagasy is an advantage.
