About the job Fixed Plant Fitter Trades Trainer
STELO is looking for an experienced and motivated Fixed Plant Fitter Trainer to coordinate the training activities of one of the most ambitious programmes in Africa's mining industry today.
This training programme will be in Madagascar.
Job Purpose:
To deliver hands-on and theoretical training to develop the skills and competencies of fixed plant fitters, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant maintenance of mechanical systems in industrial or mining fixed plant environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Training Delivery:
- Facilitate competency-based training in mechanical fitting and plant maintenance (e.g., pumps, conveyors, crushers, screens, mills)
- Deliver training in preventative and corrective maintenance practices.
- Conduct classroom and field-based sessions using OEM manuals, drawings, and standard operating procedures.
Assessment and Evaluation:
- Evaluate trainees performance through theoretical tests and practical skills assessments.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessment results, and progress.
- Ensure assessments align with recognized competency frameworks (VOC, RPL, company-specific SOPs).
Course & Material Development:
- Develop and update training materials, manuals, SOPs, and visual aids.
- Customize training content to match site equipment and maintenance procedures.
Safety and Compliance:
- Reinforce safe work practices, isolation procedures (LOTO), and permit-to-work systems.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards.
Mentorship and Support:
- Coach apprentices and upskill existing fitters through practical mentoring.
- Identify and support trainees who require additional assistance.
Reporting and Coordination:
- Collaborate with the team to schedule relevant training.
- Report trainee progress and training gaps to the Training and Maintenance departments.
Qualifications:
- Qualified Mechanical Fitter or Fixed Plant Fitter.
- At least 5 to 7 years of hands-on experience in plant maintenance within mining, processing, or heavy industry.
- Recognized Trainer/Assessor qualification.
- Knowledge of maintenance systems (CMMS), safety standards, and site-specific equipment.
Skills and Competencies:
- Excellent mechanical troubleshooting skills.
- Strong presentation and instructional skills.
- Strong safety awareness and leadership qualities.
Reporting and Coordination:
- Collaborate with maintenance supervisors and planners to schedule relevant training.
- Report trainee progress and training gaps to the Technical Training Coordinator
Languages : Professional English and French, Malagasy is an advantage.
