About the job Maintenance Planner (Zinc Concentrator)
Role Purpose
The Maintenance Planner is responsible for planning, scheduling and coordinating maintenance activities to ensure safe, reliable and cost-effective operation of the zinc concentrator.
The role focuses on high-quality work preparation, structured work management, backlog control, resource optimisation and schedule compliance to support production targets and equipment reliability. The Planner plays a critical role in ensuring all work is fully prepared and ready for efficient execution in line with safety and engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance Planning & Scheduling
- Develop detailed weekly and monthly maintenance plans aligned with production requirements.
- Convert work requests into fully scoped and planned work orders.
- Prepare complete work packs including job plans, procedures, materials, tools, drawings and safety controls.
- Ensure all work is planned ready prior to scheduling and execution.
- Balance planned work, breakdowns and shutdown activities to optimise plant availability.
- Coordinate closely with operations to align maintenance windows and priorities.
CMMS & Work Management
- Plan, manage and update all work orders within the CMMS system.
- Maintain accurate asset records, task lists and equipment history.
- Control and prioritise the maintenance backlog based on risk, criticality and operational impact.
- Ensure high-quality data capture, feedback and closure of work orders.
- Support structured work management processes and discipline across the plant.
Resource & Materials Coordination
- Plan manpower, tooling, spares and contractor requirements for all scheduled work.
- Coordinate with supply chain to ensure materials are available ahead of execution.
- Identify long-lead items and implement forward planning to prevent delays.
- Ensure correct spares are reserved, kitted and staged for execution.
- Drive efficient and cost-effective use of resources and materials.
Safety, Health & Compliance
- Integrate MHSA requirements into all maintenance planning activities.
- Ensure work packs include risk assessments, LOTO requirements and permit-to-work controls.
- Support legal compliance through accurate and auditable maintenance documentation.
- Assist with safety, engineering and statutory audits.
Shutdowns & Major Maintenance
- Support planning and coordination of shutdowns and major maintenance campaigns.
- Develop shutdown scopes, schedules, resource plans and material forecasts.
- Track shutdown readiness including materials, labour, tools and permits.
- Participate in shutdown execution reviews and continuous improvement.
- Capture lessons learned to improve future shutdown performance.
Performance Reporting & Control
- Track planned vs actual work execution and schedule compliance.
- Monitor backlog size, health and planning quality.
- Prepare planning performance reports and KPI dashboards.
- Identify opportunities to reduce downtime and improve maintenance efficiency.
Continuous Improvement & Reliability Support
- Support preventative and predictive maintenance strategies.
- Assist reliability teams in converting strategies into executable job plans.
- Standardise job plans, task lists and planning practices.
- Promote planning discipline and best-practice work management processes.
- Drive continuous improvement in planning effectiveness and execution readiness.
Operational Support
- Support daily coordination between operations, maintenance and planning teams.
- Assist in prioritisation of urgent and breakdown work.
- Participate in daily and weekly planning meetings.
Qualifications & Experience
- Trade qualification (Mechanical or Electrical) or Diploma in Engineering / Maintenance Management.
- 3–5 years' experience in maintenance planning within mining or heavy industrial operations.
- Strong working knowledge of CMMS systems (e.g. SAP, Pronto, OnKey or similar).
- Good understanding of plant equipment and maintenance workflows.
Desirable
- Experience in zinc or base-metal concentrators.
- Exposure to mineral processing plants.
- Training in reliability engineering or asset management principles.
- Exposure to shutdown planning and execution.
