About the job Welding, Boilermaking and Pipefitting Trainer
STELO is looking for an experienced and motivated Welding, Boilermaking and Pipefitting Trainer to coordinate the training activities of one of the most ambitious programmes in Africa's mining industry today.
This training programme will be in Madagascar.
Job Purpose:
To provide theoretical instruction and practical training in welding, boilermaking, and pipefitting, ensuring that trainees develop the technical skills, safety awareness, and competencies required to perform these trades effectively in industrial settings.
Key Responsibilities:
Training Delivery:
- Deliver competency-based training in:
- Welding: SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, oxy-acetylene cutting, and welding positions (1G6G).
- Boilermaking: Structural steel fabrication, plate work, tank and chute fabrication, and basic rigging.
- Pipefitting: Reading and interpreting isometric drawings, measuring, cutting, threading, and assembling pipes and fittings.
- Conduct practical workshops using industry-standard tools and equipment.
Assessment & Evaluation:
- Prepare, conduct, and document theoretical exams and practical skills tests.
- Observe and assess workmanship, safety habits, and trade techniques.
- Maintain up-to-date training records and certification logs.
- Conduct VOC of certified workers.
Curriculum & Materials Development:
- Develop and update training manuals, lesson plans, SOPs, and visual aids.
- Adapt content to specific industry needs, such as mining, oil & gas, or construction.
Safety & Compliance:
- Instruct and enforce workplace safety practices: PPE, fire safety, hot work permits, and confined space awareness.
- Promote hazard identification and risk mitigation during practical training.
Mentorship & Support:
- Provide technical guidance, coaching, and individual support to trainees.
- Support Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and upskilling of experienced workers.
Qualifications:
- Trade-certified Welder/Boilermaker/Pipefitter (Certificate III or IV or equivalent).
- Minimum 57 years of hands-on field experience.
- Certified Trainer & Assessor (e.g., TAE40116, TVET certification, or equivalent).
- Certification in specific welding processes (e.g., ASME, AWS, ISO) is a strong asset.
Skills & Competencies:
- Expertise in metal fabrication and various welding methods.
- Ability to read technical drawings and blueprints.
- Strong instructional, communication, and mentoring skills.
- High regard for safety standards and quality workmanship.
Reporting and Coordination:
- Collaborate with maintenance supervisors and planners to schedule relevant training.
- Report trainee progress and training gaps to the Technical Training Coordinator
Languages : Professional English and French, Malagasy is an advantage.
