Position Overview
We are seeking a strategic Director of Operations to lead our operations department in a COO-like capacity. This role goes beyond traditional operations management, requiring a forward-thinking leader who can own departmental challenges, ensure 24/7 availability for emergencies, and drive scaling through technology and process improvements. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, demonstrate a strong work ethic, and align with our core values of accountability and risk-taking. This is a full-time, in-office position with no hybrid options currently available.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations in logistics and waste management, implementing tech-enabled solutions to optimize efficiency and scalability.
- Develop and execute strategic plans to enhance operational processes, drawing from EOS principles to ensure alignment with company goals.
- Lead a team of operations staff, fostering accountability and ownership while addressing generational dynamics to improve retention and culture fit.
- Manage vendor relationships, freight brokerage, and logistics coordination, leveraging technology to streamline workflows.
- Handle crisis management and on-call duties, ensuring rapid response to operational issues at any time.
- Collaborate with sales, account management, and leadership teams to support overall business growth and integration.
- Utilize personality assessments as supplemental data to evaluate team fit, promoting honest and transparent evaluations.
- Contribute to recruitment efforts by providing insights on candidate profiles and participating in interview processes.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Proven experience in logistics, preferably in tech-forward sectors such as 3PL, freight brokerage, FedEx, UPS, or airline logistics.
- Strong background in scaling operations through technology, with a focus on efficiency rather than expanding workforce.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams in high-pressure environments, with a commitment to hard work and departmental ownership.
- Familiarity with EOS or similar operating systems is a plus, emphasizing strategic thinking and process ownership.
- Excellent communication skills to navigate generational differences and build respect across diverse age groups.
- Bachelor's degree in business, logistics, or a related field preferred, with at least 5-7 years of progressive operations leadership experience.
- Ability to work in a young, dynamic culture while bringing maturity and stability to the team.
Compensation and Benefits
- Competitive base salary ranging from $80,000 to $125,000 or more, depending on experience and qualifications; we are flexible for exceptional candidates.
