About the job Assessment Specialist
The Assessment Specialist will be responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating academic assessment systems that measure student learning outcomes and support the continuous improvement of teaching practices and program effectiveness. The successful candidate will work closely with academic leadership, faculty members, and institutional quality units to ensure that assessment tools are valid, reliable, and aligned with best practices in higher education.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Developing and Implementing Assessment Processes:
- Design and develop scientifically sound assessment tools and instruments .
- Conduct item analysis , validity and reliability studies, and calculate difficulty and discrimination indices .
- Prepare and implement comprehensive institutional and program-level assessment plans .
- Ensure assessments meet national and international academic quality standards .
2. Evaluating and Analyzing Learning Outcomes:
- Monitor and analyze learning outcomes at both course and program levels.
- Develop assessment maps linking outcomes to curriculum components.
- Measure achievement levels of learning outcomes and prepare detailed reports.
- Define, track, and report on key academic performance indicators (KPIs) .
3. Statistical Analysis and Reporting:
- Perform advanced statistical analysis of educational data using tools such as tableau, R, or Power BI .
- Analyze student performance trends and generate actionable insights.
- Create data visualizations and dashboards to support decision-making.
- Provide evidence-based recommendations to improve academic performance and instructional design.
4. Ensuring Quality and Standards Compliance:
- Monitor the implementation of accreditation standards in assessment processes.
- Develop and update assessment policies, procedures, and documentation .
- Maintain accurate records and supporting evidence for internal and external reviews.
- Promote a culture of quality assurance and continuous improvement .
5. Training and Capacity Building:
- Deliver training sessions to faculty and staff on:
- Item analysis and exam development
- Validity and reliability testing
- Assessment mapping and outcome alignment
- Difficulty and discrimination index calculations
- Support academic staff in improving their assessment literacy and analytical skills.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Education:
- A Masters degree in Educational Measurement and Evaluation , Educational Psychology , Statistics in Education , or a closely related field.
- A PhD or professional certifications in educational assessment or measurement are preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in assessment and evaluation within higher education institutions.
- Experience working with assessment management systems and learning management systems (LMS) .
- Demonstrated knowledge of Item Response Theory (IRT) and modern assessment frameworks.
Skills and Competencies:
- Proficiency in statistical software such as tableau, R, and Power BI .
- Strong background in educational statistics, research methodology , and psychometric.
- Excellent analytical, reporting, and presentation skills .
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Fluency in English and Arabic , both spoken and written.
