Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior or Staff Product Design Engineer to support the mechanical development, validation, and production execution of wearable hardware. Based in Taipei, this role works closely with global Product Design, Electrical, Manufacturing, and Industrial Design teams, as well as local manufacturing partners, to implement robust mechanical solutions and resolve development and production issues.
This is a senior individual contributor role focused on hands-on CAD work, prototype builds, and factory-based failure analysis, operating within an established product architecture and development framework.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and modify mechanical designs for wearable hardware components and assemblies in support of ongoing product programs
- Create and update detailed 3D CAD models and drawings using NX
- Perform tolerance analysis, stack-up analysis, and design-for-manufacturing assessments
- Build, modify, and evaluate mechanical prototypes to validate design changes and corrective actions
- Collaborate with Electrical Engineering on packaging, sealing, thermal, and structural constraints
- Lead and support mechanical failure analysis during EVT, DVT, PVT, and factory ramp
- Execute root-cause investigations and support implementation and validation of corrective actions
- Provide on-site factory support during builds, including line-side issue triage and supplier engagement
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 8+ years of experience in product design engineering for high-volume consumer electronics
- Strong hands-on experience with plastic injection molded parts, machined metals, die castings, and adhesive bonding
- Proven experience supporting products through EVT, DVT, PVT, and mass production
- CAD: High proficiency with Siemens NX (ideally) or Solidworks, ProE, Creo
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in factory environments and drive issues to resolution
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in cross-functional, global teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with wearable devices or compact, highly integrated consumer electronics
- Familiarity with mechanical reliability testing (drop, vibration, thermal, ingress)
- Experience working directly with Asia-based suppliers and contract manufacturers
- Comfort operating in fast-paced, build-driven environments
