Job Openings Optical Process/Quality Engineer

About the job Optical Process/Quality Engineer

Our team is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Process/Quality Engineer to lead the design, development, and qualification of manufacturing processes for advanced optical assemblies. In this role, you will drive process improvements through rigorous design reviews, tolerance analysis, and quality planning, while managing failure analysis and corrective actions to enhance yield and reliability. You will collaborate closely with internal teams and global vendors to analyze test data, implement quality control measures, and resolve product issues across the supply chain. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with optical and opto-mechanical processes, adhesives, and statistical analysis, and is adept at working across cross-functional and international teams to deliver robust solutions for next-generation AR/VR technologies.

Process/Quality Engineer Responsibilities

  • Drive detailed design and process development, including design reviews, tolerance analysis, FMEA, DFM, FAT, SAT, requirement specifications, Statements of Work, calibration procedures, and maintenance procedures.
  • Define, document, implement, and maintain a comprehensive Product Quality Plan (PQP) that outlines quality control requirements for manufacturing, covering Incoming Quality Control (IQC), In-Process QC (IPQC), Outgoing QC (OQC), and quality audits.
  • Manage failure analysis and corrective action initiatives, focusing on improving yield, reliability, throughput, and unit per hour (UPH) performance through systematic investigation and process improvements.
  • Lead qualification of manufacturing processes in both development and mass production, including measurement and analysis of process capability—dimensional, functional, and cosmetic—and specification review and setting with cross-functional partners.
  • Work closely with internal teams and external vendors to analyze test data using statistical methods, develop and maintain tools for requirements definition and testing, and resolve product quality issues impacting the factory, supply chain, or field using quality tools and failure analysis techniques.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Materials, Physics, Optics Engineering or equivalent practical experience
  • 2+ years of experience in the development of assembly processes and integration for display/optical imaging assemblies
  • Experience about adhesive for optical processes and opto-mechanical processes
  • Knowledge about setting up and implementing DOEs, data analysis, SPC control, Gauge R&R, root cause investigation, failure analysis, implement corrective action
  • Experience working across teams, including internal cross-functional engagements and external domestic/international vendor engagements
  • Professional level proficiency in English and Chinese
  • Good communication and presentation skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of display quality metrics and test equipment used to measure optical performance
  • Experience with precision optical assembly such as glass bonding, collimator lens assembly, camera lens and module assemblies, LED indicator assembly, and film lamination
  • Experience directing equipment development efforts at China equipment manufacturers
  • Experienced in developing processes and equipment for AR/VR applications
  • Knowledge about optical adhesive, structural adhesives, active alignment adhesives, related dispenser technologies, surface preparation, dispense and cure optimization
  • Demonstrated end to end process integration, working across multiple optical modules to drive process readiness
  • Demonstrated failure mode analysis, root cause investigation, and problem solving for product yield and quality issues
  • Experience using statistical tools (e.g. JMP, excel) for process data collection and analysis
  • Previous experience in the AR/VR field
