About the job User Experience Designer
About the Role
We're looking for a UX Designer to reshape the Manufacturing Data Analytics (MDA) platform — an internal web application used by company manufacturing and operations teams to monitor production yield, investigate failures, analyzing parametric data, and manage factory
configurations. The platform has grown organically over time and needs a cohesive design vision to improve usability, information architecture, and visual consistency.
About the Application
MDA is a data-heavy, multi-page React application built on company's internal AWS UI (Polaris/Cloudscape) design system. It serves manufacturing engineers, quality analysts, and operations managers who use it daily to make production decisions.
Key functional areas include:
- Executive Dashboards--high-level yield and production KPI views with interactive charts
- Failure Investigation--tabular workflows for analyzing, categorizing, and tracking
manufacturing failures with Jira integration and AI - generated summaries
- Yield Analytics — daily and cumulative first-pass yield (FPY) charts and drill-down tables
- Parametric Search & Analysis — server-side filtered data exploration with property-based filtering across large manufacturing datasets
- S3/Datalake Browser — file browsing and CSV viewing for raw manufacturing data
- Factory Configuration-station mapping, building config management, CM site management, and credential generation
- Permissions & Settings--role-based access control and project-level configuration
Technical Stack:
The designer will work alongside engineers building with:
- React 18- AWS UI / Cloudscape Design System- Plotly.js / react-plotly.js for interactive data visualizations- Storybook for component documentation and development
What You'll Do
- Audit the existing application across 25+ pages and identify UX pain points, inconsistencies, and opportunities
- Redesign information architecture and navigation for a platform that spans dashboards, data tables, charts, forms, configuration tools, and file browsers
- Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups for new and redesigned features
- Establish consistent patterns for common workflows: CRUD modals, approval flows, file uploads, split-panel detail views, and drawer based tooling
- Work within the Cloudscape/AWS UI design system constraints while pushing for better usability
- Collaborate directly with engineers on feasibility, component selection, and implementation handoff
- Conduct user research with manufacturing engineers and operations teams to validate designs
- Design the UX for the MDA Agent — a conversational AI assistant embedded in the platform — including chat interfaces, inline AI suggestions, streaming/loading states, and contextual awareness of the user's current page and filters
- Define interaction patterns for AI-generated content across modules (summaries, root cause suggestions, anomaly alerts) with clear trust signals, confidence indicators, feedback mechanisms, and graceful fallbacks when AI is unavailable
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of UX design experience, with significant work on data intensive web applications
- Strong portfolio demonstrating dashboard design, complex table/grid interfaces, and data visualization
- Proficiency with Figma (or equivalent) for wireframing, prototyping, and design specs
- Experience designing within an existing component library/design system (Cloudscape,
Material UI, or similar)
- Understanding of front-end concepts — enough to have productive conversations about component capabilities, state management tradeoffs, and responsive layout
- Experience with user research methods appropriate for internal/enterprise tools (contextual inquiry, task analysis, usability testing)
- Ability to work in an ambiguous environment where the product has grown organically and needs structure
- Experience designing AI-powered features in enterprise tools, or familiarity with patterns from tools like GitHub Copilot, Amazon Q, or similar AI assistants, is a strong plus.
Nice to Have
- Experience with manufacturing, industrial, or supply chain domains
- Familiarity with Amazon's Cloudscape Design System specifically
- Comfort reading React/TypeScript code to understand existing component behavior
