Location: Workshop 17, Cape Town

Responsible to: Capability Product Manager / Product Manager

What's the purpose of the role

The Product Owner role is a key role within our clients team, ensuring that the products meet the needs of the customer, we have a clear stream of prioritized work available for the development team and ensuring that items are delivered via an agile approach to an acceptable quality.

As the Product Owner you will ensure that the vision of the Product Manager is translated into actionable pieces of work for the development team to deliver. The actionable pieces of work will be provided via clear & concise user stories and requirements ensuring that we take the what and turn it into the how.

Who do you take your lead from

The Product Owner will be market facing and providing the vision and the Why and the overall prioritization of the backlog to form the roadmap. The Product Owner will define the features and user stories and drive forward with the development team.

What's the day in / day out

As Product Owner you will be responsible for multiple products on the our clients portfolio and will undertake the following on a day-to-day basis:

  • Understanding of client and market needs
  • Definition and elaboration of requirements, epics and user stories.
  • Create and maintain a product roadmap for the product(s) within your portfolio
  • Undertake backlog grooming and delivery prioritization
  • Participate in sprint planning
  • Track cross-team dependencies
  • Ensure Definition of Ready and Definition of Done are met to enter and exit a Sprint
  • Accept that the stories are completed to an acceptable quality
  • Participate in team demos and retrospectives
  • Partner with Development Manager to escalate issues, manage external dependencies and ensure stakeholders have visibility of back log progress
  • Provide subject matter expertise on the product(s) within your portfolio

The successful candidate will be passionate about agile methodologies, always looking to improve working practices, pride in the work delivered from the team feeding into the overall clients product set.

Employee Specification

Essential

  • At least 2 years professional experience acting as a Product Owner
  • Third level qualification in Computer Science or related discipline And / Or Demonstrable relevant expertise
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Team player
  • Always looking to improve the process
  • Adaptable to change
  • Attention to detail

Desirable

  • User centric philosophy
  • Experience of delivering SaaS solutions
  • Experience and knowledge of mobile device platforms and their conventions
  • Comfortable with remote working
  • Experience utilizing the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)

The Product owner will be key and instrumental in driving the products forward within their portfolio, ensuring that we have the correct capabilities, feature and functions to meet our vertical markets
