SurTech is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Public Sector Project Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing the delivery of public sector projects ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and aligned with strategic objectives. This role involves stakeholder engagement, oversight, and ensuring compliance with relevant public sector regulations and governance.

Reporting to: Head of Services/PMO Manager

Management level of role: This is not a management role.

Working environment & travel: Team-orientated environment. Drivers license and own transport are essential.

Working hours: 7:30 am to 4:00 pm when in the office and will ideally understand that there may be times that they need to work overtime.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Planning & Initiation: Assist in developing project charters, schedules, milestones and other projects artefacts in collaboration with the PMO Manager and team members.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with government agencies or departments to understand their requirements and expectations of the project.
  • Documentation Management: Maintain project documentation, including project plans, progress reports, meeting minutes, and action items. Ensure documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and accessible to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Task Tracking and Follow-Up: Track project tasks, milestones, and deliverables to ensure timely completion. Follow up with team members to ensure tasks progress according to schedule and escalate any issues or delays to the PMO manager.
  • Communication Facilitation: Facilitate communication between the implementation team and clients. Schedule and coordinate meetings, prepare agendas, and distribute meeting minutes to ensure everyone is informed and aligned.
  • Risk and Issue Management: Identify project risks and issues and assist in developing mitigation strategies and contingency plans. Monitor risk registers and issue logs and escalate critical issues to the PMO manager for resolution.
  • Client Relationship Management: Maintain positive relationships with clients and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. Address client inquiries and concerns and provide updates on project progress and status as needed.
  • Project Delivery & Monitoring: Oversee day-to-day project delivery and coordination of workstreams. Track progress against milestones. Produce regular project reports for project sponsors.

Required Experience

  • The candidate must have a bachelor's degree in business administration, information technology, or a related field to be eligible for the job.
  • The candidate to have certification in project management (e.g., CAPM, PMP, AGILE, PRINCE 2).
  • At least three years of proven experience in project management or related roles, preferably in the software implementation space.
  • Proven experience in project management, preferably in the public sector or a related industry.
  • Proficient in project management tools and software and have experience working with MS Office and Excel.
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies and best practices.

  • Adaptability: Flexibility and adaptability are essential for navigating changes in project scope, requirements, and priorities. The Project Manager should be able to adjust plans and strategies as needed to accommodate evolving project needs and external factors.
  • Customer Focus: Understanding and prioritising client and stakeholder needs is critical for successful projects. The Project Manager should be responsive to client inquiries, proactively addressing concerns, and committed to delivering value and satisfaction.
