Position Summary

The Director of Rehabilitation Services provides strategic and operational leadership for the rehabilitation department, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care. This position is responsible for overseeing the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of rehabilitation services while maintaining compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and accreditation bodies including The Joint Commission and CARF.

This role holds 24-hour accountability for department management, team development, quality initiatives, and clinical outcomes. The Director actively collaborates with clinical and administrative leaders to drive performance, enhance patient and staff satisfaction, and promote best practices in rehabilitative care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight for all rehabilitation services, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology.

  • Develop and evaluate clinical staff performance and ensure compliance with hospital standards and licensure requirements.

  • Drive performance improvement initiatives related to core measures, patient safety, and accreditation benchmarks.

  • Maintain a proactive and supportive dialogue with staff, conducting regular one-on-one and group meetings to address concerns and promote team engagement.

  • Collaborate with hospital nursing leadership to ensure alignment with system-wide goals and implementation of new initiatives.

  • Monitor and improve patient, employee, and physician satisfaction scores.

  • Ensure proper resource utilization, budget adherence, and departmental efficiency.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of clinical and/or rehabilitation experience.

  • At least three (3) years of experience in management and/or program development.

  • Clinical background in physical medicine and rehabilitation within an acute care setting.

  • Bachelors degree from a four-year accredited college or university.

  • Current California license in one of the following disciplines: Registered Nurse (RN), Physical Therapist (PT), Occupational Therapist (OT), or Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP).

  • If licensed as an RN, must have Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN) certification.

  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification required within 30 days of hire.

Preferred:

  • Masters degree in a healthcare-related field or clinical discipline (e.g., Nursing, Healthcare Management).

  • Strongly prefer background as a licensed PT, OT, or SLP.
