We are currently supporting our client in the search for an experienced and commercially driven Firefighting / Fire Alarm Engineer to join their team.
Roles and Responsibilities
The Firefighting / Fire Alarm Engineer is responsible for managing and maintaining all fire life safety (FLS) systems, ensuring reliable operation and full compliance with regulatory requirements, including Qatar Civil Défense standards. The role oversees contractors, enforces SLA and KPI requirements, and ensures that all fire detection, alarm, and suppression systems are properly maintained, tested, and documented through CAFM systems. The position supports procurement planning, tendering activities, and technical evaluations to ensure the integrity and reliability of fire protection systems.
Detailed Roles &Responsibilities:
- Fire Life Safety (FLS) Systems Management:
- Manage the operation and maintenance of fire detection and suppression systems, including smoke detectors, sprinklers, fire pumps, and alarm systems.
- Ensure continuous functionality and integrity of all fire life safety systems.
- Monitor system performance and address faults or deficiencies promptly.
- Ensure all maintenance activities and system performance are tracked and monitored through CAFM systems.
- Ensure fire protection systems are fully operational across all buildings and units.
- Coordinate maintenance activities with contractors and technical teams.
- Fire Alarm Systems Monitoring & Control:
- Ensure Fire Alarm Control Panels (FACP) are monitored 24/7 and remain fault-free.
- Investigate and resolve alarm faults, system errors, or false alarms.
- Ensure proper integration of alarm systems with other building systems.
- Maintain logs of system alerts, faults, and corrective actions.
- Ensure all alarm systems are tested regularly and operate reliably.
- Testing, Inspection & Preventive Maintenance:
- Schedule and supervise regular testing and inspection of fire hydrants, hose reels, extinguishers, and fire pumps.
- Ensure all fire protection equipment is ready for immediate use.
- Develop and maintain annual PPM schedules for all fire life safety systems in compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices.
- Conduct preventive maintenance activities in accordance with regulatory requirements and standards.
- Coordinate periodic testing with specialized service providers.
- Maintain records of inspections, tests, and maintenance activities.
- Regulatory Compliance & Authority Coordination:
- Coordinate with Qatar Civil Défense (QCD) for inspections, approvals, and certification renewals.
- Ensure timely closure of all observations and comments raised by Qatar Civil Défense and other regulatory authorities.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable fire safety regulations and building codes.
- Prepare documentation required for regulatory submissions and audits.
- Support obtaining and renewing fire safety certificates for buildings.
- Maintain records of compliance, approvals, and certifications.
- Emergency Preparedness & Fire Safety Awareness:
- Organize and conduct fire drills and emergency response exercises for staff and residents.
- Coordinate with the HSEQ Lead on safety awareness programs and training.
- Ensure readiness of emergency response procedures and evacuation plans.
- Support incident response during fire-related emergencies.
- Promote fire safety awareness across the organization.
- Contractor Management & System Integrity:
- Manage fire life safety contractors and service providers.
- Ensure contractors deliver high-quality maintenance and use approved materials and genuine parts.
- Validate all contractor deliverables, maintenance reports, and testing results to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
- Identify system performance gaps and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Review building modifications and renovations to ensure they do not compromise fire safety systems.
- Ensure fire-rated compartments and detection coverage remain intact.
- Monitor and evaluate contractor performance against defined KPIs, SLAs, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Procurement & Technical Support:
- Prepare technical specifications, scope of work, and tender documents for fire life safety systems and related services.
- Participate in technical evaluation of contractor submissions and ensure compliance with FLS standards and project requirements.
- Provide input for procurement planning based on system condition, criticality, and maintenance requirements.
- Coordinate with Procurement Officer for procurement planning and material availability.
- Spare Parts & Asset Management Support
- Define and monitor minimum, maximum, and critical spare parts requirements for fire life safety systems.
- Ensure availability of critical spare parts to maintain system reliability and emergency readiness.
- Support asset management activities by maintaining accurate records of FLS systems, components, and maintenance history.
Skills:
- Technical / Functional Skills:
- Fire alarm and firefighting systems (FACP, sprinklers, pumps, detectors).
- Knowledge of fire safety standards (NFPA, local regulations, QCDD requirements).
- Preventive maintenance and system testing.
- Fault diagnosis and troubleshooting of fire systems.
- Regulatory compliance and inspection processes.

Education & Professional Certificates
Education:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or equivalent.
Certificates:
Preferred Certifications:
- NFPA Certifications (e.g., NFPA Certified Fire Protection Specialist)
- Fire Alarm System Certification
- NEBOSH or equivalent safety certification
Computer Literacy:
- Computer literate.
- Proficiency in:
- MS Office.
- Maintenance management systems (CMMS).
Languages:
English fluent.
Arabic is preferred.
Experience
- 5–8 years of experience in fire protection systems or building services engineering.
- Experience in facility management or real estate environments is preferred.
- Experience dealing with Qatar Civil Défense (QCDD) regulations is a strong advantage.
