Role Purpose

The Coating Inspector / Coating Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all applied coating systems meet approved project specifications, international standards, and client requirements. The role includes inspection, testing, documentation, and supervision of coating activities to ensure long-term asset protection.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Inspect and monitor surface preparation and coating application activities in accordance with approved procedures and specifications.
  2. Ensure applied coating systems are highly abrasion-resistant and strongly bonded to the substrate.
  3. Verify that coatings are suitable for pipeline and storage tank lining, including epoxy, phenolic, polyurethane, or approved combinations.
  4. Ensure coating systems are approved by the Client or Clients Consultant prior to application.
  5. Confirm coating performance requirements, including:

    • Minimum 5 mm total thickness (+/- 20%)
    • Service life of at least 25 years when applied correctly
  6. Ensure compliance with ISO 12944-1, specifically resistance to sun UV radiation, occasional impact, and microbiological activity in the exposure environment.
  7. Conduct inspections during all stages: surface preparation, application, curing, and final acceptance.
  8. Witness and document testing such as DFT measurement, adhesion tests, holiday testing, and visual inspections.
  9. Prepare inspection reports, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and final coating documentation.
  10. Coordinate with contractors, QA/QC teams, and client representatives to resolve coating-related issues.

Compliance & Certification Requirements

  • At least one NACE-certified Coating Specialist must be part of the contractors team and be in charge of all technical aspects of coating work.
  • Only NACE or ICORR-certified concrete coating inspectors are permitted to inspect coating work activities.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of industrial coating systems and standards
  • Hands-on experience with inspection tools and testing methods
  • Ability to read and interpret specifications, datasheets, and drawings
  • Strong reporting and documentation skills
  • Good coordination and communication abilities

Preferred Profile

  • Experience in Oil & Gas plants, pipelines, and storage tanks
  • GCC project experience preferred
  • Immediate availability or short notice period
